NTT docomo showed the world’s first spherical LED display for drones

The use of drones for attracting attention – the idea is not fresh. Just remember last year’s light show company Intel, which involved 500 quadropedal Shooting Star. Or, for example, the fascinating “sky ballet” from MicroAd against the background of mount Fuji. The largest Japanese mobile operator NTT docomo decided to go further, equipping the drone of spherical LED display.

Development of NTT docomo includes quadcopter that is placed inside a light frame with a round shape. When you start the drone starts rotating LED frames, which subsequently creates the effect of a solid image. The led display can display various images, including text messages, which may be of particular interest to the fields of marketing and entertainment.

As recognized by the developers themselves, creating a LED display was fraught with many difficulties. The air flow from the rotating display prevented the propellers of the drone, but the design required refinement to reduce the load on the drone. However, after numerous experiments, NTT docomo managed to find a middle ground. The device can be used almost anywhere, including in the concert halls and major arenas for commercial purposes.
