Today it became known that the company Razer, a manufacturer of peripherals, accessories and gaming laptops, purchased the company Nextbit.
Startup Nextbit was founded by veterans of Android, and became famous for building cloud-based mobile Robin. Analysts say that Nextbit can become for Razer a necessary springboard for entry into the mobile phone market. Similarly, acquired the company in 2008, the team Panasonic has allowed this manufacturer to start production of gaming notebooks.
In the most Razer have not yet specified its strategic plans for Nextbit. "We will talk about this when we're ready," — said the Executive Director of the company, Minlen tan (Min-Liang Tan). The only thing he said that Nextbit, with three dozen employees, will operate as a separate business unit producing products under its former brand.
It is worth noting that among these products will not smartphone Robin, as it was discontinued by Nextbit before absorption. Existing smartphones Robin will continue to receive software updates, at least for the next six months.
If Razer actually expects to enter the market of smartphones and/or cloud services, it will have to face stiff competition from giants that have well-established user base and the large capital involved.
Recall that about three months ago Razer has gained a cult brand of audio technology, THX.
