How it works

Smart glasses are based on liquid lenses, which are two of the membrane with glycerin inside (or any other transparent substance with a suitable refractive index). Using the infrared sensor mounted in the gadget determines the distance to the object, which directed the eyes of the user, and adjusts the curvature of the lens to focus on the desired point. The whole process takes some 14 milliseconds, and the built-in battery is rated for 24 hours of work in offline mode.


In the future of liquid lens will be more compact

A prototype of the glasses were unveiled at CES 2017 in early January. It turned out to be quite cumbersome, but, Mastrangelo colleagues are already working on a thinner and lighter version. The second-generation model will be equipped with a camera to determine the depth and tracking system sight. This will improve the accuracy of the gadget, but due to the higher consumption will have to install a more capacious battery (not spoiling the appearance of the device, otherwise no one will want to wear).

The approximate price of the gadget from $500 to $1000, and its final version will be ready only after two or even three years.
