Sony advises not to use their smartphones under water

In the framework of the exhibition IFA 2017 Sony has announced two new smartphones: Xperia and XZ1 XZ1 Compact. Despite the fact that both devices are protected from moisture and dust according to IP68 standard, the company advises not to put these smartphones under the water.

That’s what written on official website on the data page smartphones:

“Xperia XZ1 (Compact) has protection against water and dust, so you can not be afraid of the rain or to wash the smartphone with running water. But all ports and attached covers shall be securely closed. Abuse or the correct use of the smartphone will result in loss of warranty”.

What do we have? Both phones will easily take heavy rain or intermittent contact with the water. Despite the fact that the standard of protection IP68 involves immersing the device in water to a depth of 1.5 meters and for up to 30 minutes, the manufacturer still advises not to do this. Since all the tests for obtaining a certificate of protection are carried out in laboratory conditions which rarely are similar to the use of the device in real life.
