Startup of the week from Hello: Qoobo – an interactive pillow with a tail
Last week we told you about the innovative Amateur telescope with advanced features called eVscope. Today you will learn about the structure of Qoobo, which is an interactive robotic pillow with a tail that responds to the touch.
About the project
The Japanese company Yukai Engineering presented something quite extraordinary in the field of “smart” gadgets for the home device Qoobo, which is a soft round pillow with the robotic tail that responds to touch, as well as a cat.
“Unique fluffy pillow Qoobo is a communication tool that allows the robot to communicate with the host without words”, — is spoken in the video demo.
Qoobo the developers claim that intuitive pillow is designed, primarily, for living alone, people who lack communication.
Robotic pillow with a tail designed to provide its owner with a “tail therapy” – so the authors of the project called calming effect Qoobo.
“Yukai Engineering used the experience in robotics to help everyone, including people with allergies to animals and tenants of apartments, where it is forbidden to keep a pet, experience the comfort and solace that can only give animals”, – explained the developers of the toys. The idea Qoobo has arisen at one of the employees of Yukai Engineering about six months ago. The designer was a cat, but because the apartment in which she soon moved, not allowed to keep a pet, she had to leave her cat at my parents ‘ house. This is what prompted her to come up with a realistic replacement for a pet that would make everyone to experience the feelings that when dealing with a live pet.
“Cushion Qoobo and the movement of her tail raise a smile and help get rid of stress. This is a new concept of communication between human and a robot is only through the movement of the tail, and not through sounds or facial expression”, – described his own experience of “dialogue” with the pillow the Professor Nobuhiro Sakata from Dokosoko medical University.
The process of “dialogue” with a robotic pillow is very simple: just stroke it and watch the reaction of the tail, the movement of which will depend on your actions.
In addition, the robot Qoobo may be used for therapeutic purposes, namely for the treatment of depression, anxiety and other psychological disorders in people of all ages. It is known that stroking cats, these people settle down faster and have a better mood.
The size of the pillow Qoobo is 33 × 54 cm and a weight of about 1 kg. It runs on batteries that provide about 8 hours of battery life.
Interactive pillow is available in two colors: grey and brown.
Available delivery options Qoobo:
The first batch tailed pillows will be shipped to customers approximately September 2018.
The required amount for the project Qoobo is ¥5,000,000. At the time of writing, the startup has already collected ¥6,730,311, whereas before the end of the campaign remains another 30 days.
