The new 3D printers: a rapid liquid seal (6 photos + video)
Rapid Liquid Printing — a new direction in 3D printing, allowing you to create objects of large volumes. The proposed method is a joint development of furniture manufacturer Steelcase and specialists from the Massachusetts Institute of technology.
What is the fundamental difference of the new approach? Liquid print is produced in a translucent gel. In conventional printing structure is created in layers, one superimposed on the other. In the new approach, the gel retains the shape of the object that should be printed by the printer. The material for the product solidifies upon contact with the jelly-like mass, so the UV light and high temperatures are not needed. The technician pulls out a container from the finished product, washes it and can give the customer. The size of the product only depends on the size of the reservoir with gel.
The new technology was presented at the Milan design week. Then, using Rapid Liquid Printing, was printed by lace the upper part of the coffee table. The embodiment of design ideas gone 28 minutes. Another experiment reduced the time of manufacture the right parts from 50 hours to 10 minutes.
The developers have not yet spoken about the commercial use of his printing method. In their plans is only a continuation of the experiments.

Similar technology has developed and the company Carbon3D. But their method was not without the use of ultraviolet light. He certainly needed after a dive platform into the liquid polymer. This method has already been applied. Example, when you create the soles Adidas FutureCraft 4D.
