Australia started racing santamobile (27 pics + 2 videos)
Teams from all over the world gathered in Australia to participate in the most incredible race on the planet — solar-cars. 42 cars were brought here from more than 30 countries. We will ride from Darwin to Adelaide, the length of which is three thousand kilometers from 8 to 15 October. The route will pass through the centre of the Australian continent, from the Northern to the southern point.
The World Solar Challenge is a student teams independently constructed their own vehicles. Previously, participants had a number of races. On the basis of these tests was built the final grid position before the upcoming start of the race. At the head of the list were the Belgian team, whose car the average speed was 83.4 to km per hour.
Rules of the competition determined by the organizers loud and clear. They proceeded from the idea that cars with a capacity of 1000 Watt finish within 50 hours. However, there is this competition a record running the course in 29 hours and 49 minutes. It in 2009 established a “solar car” Tokai University.
Solar vehicles are allowed to store energy with a nominal capacity of 5 Watts, and this — 10% of the theoretical figure. The remaining 90% must come from the sun or to recover the kinetic energy of the car.
To continue driving after five o’clock in the evening the teams is prohibited. From this point on they need to stay for the night, break camp. Along the entire route established a series of control points. Here are allowed to carry out only basic maintenance to adjust the pressure in the tires and clean the car from dirt and debris.
