A group of scientists from the American company Second Sight, has issued permits for trials of the new implant. Experts believe that their development will help to restore people lost sight. The test will take the participation of several volunteers. Animal testing has already been carried out two years ago, gave good results.
The chip will be implanted in the filled gray matter cortex. By acting on the neurons, it will return the ability to discern light, shapes or completely restoring lost because of diseases provoked in particular diabetes, vision.
Another project of the company, Argus II, is already taking root in medical practice. Glasses equipped with a video camera, transmit the signal to the processor and to the electrodes of an artificial retina that is implanted into the area of the optic nerve.
