A Closer Look At Google Pixel 5 Back; Is It Metal, Plastic Or Both?

The Google Pixel 5 surfaced several times thus far, and its build materials are still a mystery. This time around, a well-known tipster shared an image of the Google Pixel 5 back side, a closeup of sorts.

If you take a look at the image below the article, you’ll be able to see it yourself. The image comes from Roland Quandt, and he’s still not sure what we’re looking at here.

The Google Pixel 5 could be using coated metal, with a cutout for wireless charging on the back

In his tweet, he says that he bets on “coated metal”, with a “cutout for wireless charging”. So, this is a possibility, and it wouldn’t be the first time Google is mixing materials, and using a coating to “hide” what’s underneath.

The phone’s body does look quite mysterious, and the tipster could be right. Wireless charging doesn’t work through metal, so if this coated metal, it needs to have a hole somewhere on the back.

It’s possible Google mixed metal with plastic or something of the sort, and that a part of the back is plastic through-and-through. That could enable the phone to charge wirelessly.

The very same source actually published the device’s spec sheet. He says that he actually has an official spec sheet, and that the build materials are listed, but that the listing is quite confusing. Hence the metal + plastic combo guess.

The Google Pixel 5 will become official on September 30, so tomorrow. We won’t have to wait for long in order to find out the truth here. You will also notice that the phone’s back and sides are basically fused together, this seems to be a unibody build, at least from the outside.

A fingerprint scanner is located on the back, along with Google’s branding, and the phone’s rear cameras. This phone will include two camera sensors, alongside some additional sensors, and an LED flash.

The device will feature two rear cameras, ultra-wide unit included

A 12.2-megapixel main camera will be backed by a 16-megapixel ultra-wide camera. Pixel users have been requesting an ultra-wide camera for a long time, and Google will finally deliver in that regard.

The Google Pixel 5 will be fueled by the Snapdragon 765G. So, the company will utilize a mid-range processor this time around. The Snapdragon 865 or 865 Plus won’t be used by Google this time around.

The device is expected to include 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. A 6-inch fullHD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate is also expected, along with Android 11.

The phone will include a 4,080mAh battery, and it will support 18W wired charging. We’re not really sure about wireless charging specifics, but it is expected to sport it.
