Android 11 Update For Galaxy S20 FE Now Rolling Out Globally

Samsung caught everyone by surprise when it started rolling out the Android 11-based One UI 3.0 update to the Galaxy S20 FE last week, a good two months ahead of the official schedule. The update was initially released for the LTE variants of the device in Russia. Now, Samsung has started updating the 5G variants as well. More importantly, the update is now available in dozens of markets across different continents.

Samsung’s official Android 11 roadmap says the Galaxy S20 FE would get the One UI 3.0 update in January or February, depending on the market. However, the company has now kicked off a global rollout of the update for the device much ahead of that timeline.

The Android 11-based One UI 3.0 update brings tons of new features, enhancements, and UI changes to Samsung smartphones. Samsung has also made several improvements to stock apps such as Messages, Contacts, Phone, and Calendar.

There’s, of course, nothing wrong with Samsung pushing the update early. That’s a welcome change for a company that isn’t known for rolling out major Android OS updates to its smartphones fast. The world’s No. 1 smartphone maker has been gradually improving its reputation in this regard and that’s only beneficial for the consumers.

Samsung has already pushed the Android 11-based One UI 3.0 update to its recent flagship models. The Galaxy S20, Galaxy Note 20, and the Galaxy Z Flip series phones have all received the update. The Galaxy S10, Galaxy Note 10, and the Galaxy Z Fold phones are also in beta programs. Stable release for these devices may arrive anytime now.

Samsung also, quite impressively, opened One UI 3.0 beta programs for the Galaxy M31 and Galaxy A51 5G earlier this week. If everything goes well, we might see the company push the first beta for these mid-range phones before the end of this year. That’d be a commendable effort from Samsung.

It is also evident by now that Samsung’s official Android 11 update roadmaps are largely random. The roadmaps say both the Galaxy M31 and Galaxy A51 would receive the stable update in March 2021. However, in all likelihood, it may come much ahead of the schedule.

If you’re a Galaxy S20 FE user, there’s a good chance that Android 11 is already available for your phone. You can manually check for the update by navigating to the Software update menu in the Settings app. The update for the LTE and 5G variants comes with firmware versions G780FXXU1BTL1 and G781BXXU1BTL4 respectively.
