Chrome beta for Android has hit version 66 and comes with a new UI design, called the Modern Design UI, and replaces the “Chrome Home” style that Google was testing out over the past few months. Though the latest version of Chrome beta on Android does have a new look, the design is not a complete overhaul and only contains some noticeable visual changes. Google has officially announced that the beta update has been released and that it’s available for download on the Play Store, but it has only started rolling out so your mileage may vary when it comes to seeing the changes for yourself.
In regards to what you’ll see when the update does appear, more rounded corners and edges for things like the recent bookmarks and the Google Search bar that sits towards the top of the main page will be present. Other elements throughout the web browser will have slightly more rounded corners too, such as the new tab button in the top right, and the corners of the recent tabs when you open up the tabs page to sift through them. You might also notice that the tabs page now features a white background which makes things look brighter than they did before as it used to be a dark color. You’ll still see this look in the stable version of Chrome.
Another visual change, though perhaps less noticeable, will be the white media controls for the media player, as well as the round button for pausing and resuming playback which now sits in the middle of a video. Once you’ve updated Chrome beta to the latest version or if you install it now that version 66 has been rolled out to the Play Store, you will still need to enable the flags which will bring these design changes to the surface. On the chrome://flags page, search for the Chrome Modern Design and New Media Controls flags to enable these as they will both be disabled by default. You can see what these visual changes look like in the gallery of images below, and you can grab Chrome beta from the button below if you want to try things out for yourself.Google play
