Exclusive: Samsung To Announce Galaxy Tab S4 On August 1
Samsung is hosting an event on August 1 and AndroidHeadlines can confirm the event will be to unveil and launch the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4. The confirmation on this was provided by a person familiar with Samsung’s plans. As a result, Samsung will not be waiting until IFA to unveil the tablet, or even until Samsung Unpacked on August 9 (when the Galaxy Note 9 is set to be announced), but instead will launch its latest tablet addition on Wednesday, August 1.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 has leaked extensively over the past few weeks, and therefore there is not a lot left to know about the device. An official render of the device revealed by AndroidHeadlines at the start of July and since then more images — including real-life photos — have emerged. As well as details on the general specs and features. For example, it’s largely now expected the Galaxy Tab S4 will feature a 10.5-inch display along with a 16:10 aspect ratio (resulting in thinner bezels and the removal of the fingerprint sensor) and a 2560 x 1600 resolution. In addition to a core combination of 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC. The tablet will also feature a 13-megapixel camera on the back, along with an 8-megapixel camera on the front. The rest of the main features will be padded out with a 7,300 mAh capacity battery, Bluetooth 5.0, an iris scanner, support for Samsung DeX, and Android 8.1 (Oreo). Color options are thought to include, but not necessarily be limited to, black, white and/or grey.
The timing of this August 1 announcement is interesting considering the company has a high-profile event scheduled for the very next week. So it remains unclear why Samsung has opted to announce the Galaxy Tab S4 only a few days before that event. Although, there has been speculation that Samsung is also planning to unveil its new watch (Galaxy Watch) at the same event as the Galaxy Note 9, so this might simply be more of a case of increasing exposure and attention ahead of the Galaxy Note 9 launch. Instead of trying to further dilute the media attention with too many products on the same day, or having to resort to another product launch during the initial Galaxy Note 9 pre-order and sales period.
