Galaxy Note 10 May Be Fueled By Samsung’s Next Gen Chipset

It was rumored earlier that the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 will be underpinned by the new Exynos 9825 chipset and the South Korean giant has now corroborated those rumors by putting up a teaser on its Twitter profile heralding the arrival of an evolved, next level, intelligent processor. Furthermore, the company says that the new SoC will be unveiled on August 7, the same day it’s going to release its new flagships.

The Exynos 9825 SoC will most likely underpin the European and South Korean models of the Galaxy Note 10 series, while the U.S.-specific version will reportedly be fueled by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset and not its higher binned version, the recently announced Snapdragon 855 Plus which has an overclocked CPU and GPU.

This means that while the Exynos power variants of the Galaxy Note 10 can be expected to be much faster than the S10 phones powered by Samsung’s own chipset, the performance of the Snapdragon versions will likely be the same.

Compared to the Exynos 9820 that fuels the Galaxy S10, the Exynos 9825 is expected to provide a significant boost to the performance. Basically, the Exynos 9820 is made on the 8nm node, while the forthcoming Exynos 9825 will apparently be made using Samsung’s own 7nm extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography technology which is reportedly better than the methods used by TSMC. The new chipset will supposedly be faster and more efficient than the company’s current flagship silicon.

Moreover, grapevine also has it that Samsung’s 7nm chipset will come with a built-in 5G modem, which will make the Note 10 the first phone to come with integrated 5G connectivity. Samsung had previously shared its ambition of wanting to be the first manufacturer to make a chipset with embedded 5G support and it has supposedly cracked the integration.

Other than that, going by Samsung’s teaser, it can also be assumed that the Exynos 9825 chipset will be armed with a better NPU, and that’s not surprising, as back in July, the company announced a new NPU technology that will enable faster computational speeds and improved optimization.

According to a Geekbench listing, the Exynos 9825 fueled Galaxy Note 10 Plus 5G is slightly better than the Qualcomm-powered S10 Plus, especially as far as single-core tasks are concerned. These results are only expected to improve further as Samsung will probably optimize the device more before releasing it. That being said, benchmark scores are easy to spoof so take this report with a pinch of salt. Since both Snapdragon 855 and Exynos 9825 are 7nm chips, they aren’t expected to be too different in terms of performance. So, the U.S. based consumers will not really be missing out on anything.

Usually, Samsung differentiates the Note series handsets from the S family of phones with the S Pen stylus, bigger display, more storage, and larger battery, but this time around, the differences are going to widen with the new Exynos chipset. Given that the Galaxy S10 series is already doing quite well with the company’s 8nm chip, the demand for the Note 10 series can be expected to be even better now that it’s presumably getting a new chipset under the hood.
