Google Assistant Support Comes To Schlage’s Smart Sense Lock – CES 2018

Google Assistant support finally comes to Schlage’s smart sense deadbolt lock, making it possible for those with a Google Assistant-enabled smartphone or a Google Home smart speaker to interact with the lock all by voice. For example, users could tell Google Assistant to lock the door and the door will lock automatically without having physically lock it or use the smart lock’s companion app to do the job, though it will still be possible to do so if you feel like using the app instead.

Since the locks are compatible with Google Assistant that means you will be able to ask Google to lock the Schlage Smart Sense Deadbolt from the phone in addition to a Google Home, Google Home Mini, or Google Home Max. Schlage and Google both value security of their consumers, which is why one of the things you can do with the lock is ask Google if you actually locked the deadbolt in the event that you forget or just aren’t sure. If Google notifies you that the deadbolt isn’t locked it will ask you if you want to lock the door and you can say yes, to which Google would respond “ok” and lock the door for you right then and there.

Schlage says that the Google Assistant integration won’t be available immediately and will instead not be ready until sometime in the first quarter of 2018, which means it could be pushed out to the lock sometime between now and the next few months. The good news for anyone with an Alexa-powered device is that the Schlage Smart Sense Deadbolt locks are already compatible with Alexa so there is still some voice interaction there that can be utilized. With the Schlage Smart Sense Deadbolt locks which are already available to purchase through multiple retailers, you can add up to 30 different unique codes that will unlock the door by way of the touch keypad on the front of the lock, and this allows for trusted friends and family to get into the home without having to have the main owner present to punch in their own code. If you already own one of these locks then it won’t be too long before Google Assistant support is up and running.
