Google Home’s New Features Aim To Put A Spring In Your Step

Google is bringing a number of features to its Home products, to celebrate the start of Spring.

Though Spring officially started a couple of weeks ago, the weather is now finally to get a bit warmer and many of us are spending more time outside. So Google Home decided it was time to add some new feature to help everyone with their wellness goals, before we get to Summer.

The first feature that Google Home is adding starting today, is a new “Gentle Sleep & Wake” feature, that will allow you to use any Google Home device to create a routine, which will gradually turn on your lights or turn them off, depending on if you are waking up or going to sleep, over the course of 30 minutes. This, unfortunately, only works with Philips Hue bulbs right now, and it is very similar to a feature that those bulbs already have, in their app. It’s just now available on Google Home.

To use this feature just say “OK Google, turn on Gentle Wake Up.” Or you can say “Wake up my lights.”

Headspace is making its way to Google Home. Allowing users to try out a short meditation or get sleep exercise. Just say “Hey Google, tell Headspace I’m ready for bed.” You can also tell Google that you want to meditate, and get some recommendations for healing sounds and such.

Now this next feature isn’t really new, as we’ve had recipe apps available on Google Home devices for quite some time. But you can use these apps to cook healthy recipes to lose some weight, or even just get healthy. You can use your voice to search for millions of recipes, and even save them to your cookbook for later.

With Summer right around the corner, you’re going to want to get some exercise so that your Summer body is ready. With Google Home Hub, you can browse for a workout playlist, set alarms and even find home workout videos on YouTube to watch. This also works on Google Home, Home Mini and Home Max, but since these don’t have screens you can Cast the videos to your TV.

Google Play now has Audiobooks, so you can now listen to your favorite books while you’re doing chores around the house, doing a home workout, or even getting some work done. This will work on Google Home devices as well as your smartphone, or really anything that uses the Google Assistant. Just say “Hey Google, read my book” and it’ll start where you left off. You can also set a timer by saying “Hey Google, stop playing in 20 minutes, which can be very helpful.

Google Home is always looking for ways to make our lives easier, and with this set of features (some are new and some are older), it means that we can take full advantage of the warmer days now. Spending more time outside, getting our workouts in and even catching up on some audiobooks. All of these features are rolling out to Google Home devices today, or are already available.
