Google Testing Floating Keyboard In Gboard Beta v7.6

In Short: Gboard Beta has just received a rather interesting feature, a floating keyboard. Floating keyboard is available in Gboard Beta v7.6, which probably means that it will hit the stable channel in the near future. This floating keyboard functions more or less like any other floating keyboard out there, as it has a handle on the bottom, which allows you to move it around. You can also resize this keyboard as you please, using handles at the corners. If you move this keyboard somewhere on the display, and don’t use it for a while, its opacity will turn up halfway, to about 50-percent, so that it’s not in the way.

Background: Needless to say, Gboard (formerly known as Google Keyboard), is quite probably the most popular keyboard app out there. This application has been around for a long time now, and the company has constantly been adding features to it. Gboard v7.4 app teardown revealed that Google has an intention to add a floating keyboard to the app in the future, and that just happened. The keyboard seems to be stable enough in this beta, at least according to reports, so chances are it’s nearly ready for the stable channel. Google has recently added an option to Gboard which allows you to create your own stickers, which is a rather interesting feature, as is this floating keyboard, which is a rather significant feature, especially for some users.

Impact: Having a floating keyboard may prove to be useful for some people, while others will probably ignore it altogether, as it’s usually the case. While in floating mode, you can use this keyboard as you normally would, glide typing works fine as well. On top of everything, it’s worth noting that this feature doesn’t seem to be available to everyone who installed Gboard Beta v7.6, it was not available to us at all, and for some people this option disappeared not long after they installed the app, so it’s quite possible that Google wanted to limit this test, even though it’s not clear as to why, considering this is a beta version of the app. In any case, if you’d like to try out this feature, you’ll have to install the beta version of Gboard from the link down below.
