Hands-On With The Red Honor 7X Smartphone – CES 2018

Flame Red Honor 7X was announced back in November in China, and considering that the device is displayed at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, we were able to grab the phone and get some hands-on time with it. Now, it’s worth noting that we’ve already reviewed the Honor 7X, which is identical to the Flame Red model, except it sports a different paint job, so we basically knew what to expect here. The Honor 7X was initially announced in China back in October, while the Flame Red variant followed in November, it had also dropped in China first.

It seems like, though that the Flame Red variant of the Honor 7X is referred to as ‘Red’ in the US. In any case, this is Honor’s budget smartphone, and the device looks really good in person, while it also feels really nice in the hand as well, we’d even say premium, even though it belongs in the budget category. The red color is quite punchy, and if you’re into that sort of thing, you won’t be disappointed here. During this year’s CES, Honor even announced that the Honor View 10 and Red Honor 7X will arrive to the US, though the company did mention that only 200,000 units of the Red Honor 7X will be manufactured. The Red Honor 7X will be priced at $199 in the US, and we still do not know when exactly will it land in the US, same goes for the Honor View 10. The Honor View 10, on the other hand, is expected to cost less than $500, but we still do not have any official info regarding its pricing in the States.

The Red Honor 7X, much like the regular model, is made out of metal, the device sports a dual camera setup on the back, and those two cameras protrude on the back a little bit, but it’s not noticeable when the phone is sitting on a flat surface, it won’t wobble or anything of the sort. A fingerprint scanner is located below those two cameras, while the company’s branding, and an LED flash are also included on the back side of this smartphone. The device’s antenna lines are also noticeable on the back side of this phone, while you will find a 3.5mm headphone jack at the very bottom of the Honor 7X. A Type-C USB port is also located down there, and the same goes for the phone’s loudspeaker. The device’s SIM card tray sits on the left, and the company’s branding is not only present on the back side of the phone, but also below the device’s display.

The (Red) Honor 7X does sport rather thin bezels, which is commendable for such an affordable phone. Unlike the regular Honor 7X model, the Red Honor 7X is not available in a 3GB RAM variant, it packs in 4GB of RAM, and it was originally announced in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB storage flavors, though we’re not sure whether all of them will make their way to the US. The device sports a 5.93-inch fullHD+ IPS LCD display, while it also offers two SIM card slots. Huawei’s Kirin 659 64-bit octa-core processor fuels this phone, while Android 7.0 Nougat comes pre-installed on it, along with Huawei’s Emotion UI (EMUI) 8.0 skin. 16 and 2-megapixel cameras are included on the back of this phone, while you will find a 3,340mAh non-removable battery on the inside of the device as well. Check out the gallery down below if you’d like to take a closer look at the Red Honor 7X.
