Here’s Some Bad News About The Galaxy Fold 2

According to reports out of South Korea, the Galaxy Fold 2 isn’t going to have a feature that everyone was hoping for. That is S Pen support, something that would make the Galaxy Fold 2 amazing, won’t be available unfortunately.

Many people, including myself, have said that the Galaxy Fold would be almost perfect if it had S Pen support. The reason for that is because it unfolds to showcase a much larger display. And having a stylus on a larger display is a lot easier for multi-tasking. Especially for those that are Galaxy Note users.

It could be due to the display not being strong enough

It’s important to note that foldable smartphone displays are much softer than traditional smartphones. A big reason for that is because they are made of plastic for the most part – even though Samsung has been using Ultra Thin Glass on the Galaxy Z Flip and rumored to be on the Galaxy Fold 2. It’s still a lot softer than a traditional display. And that could pose an issue for a stylus.

The Ultra Thin Glass display on the Galaxy Z Flip is about 0.03mm thick. While the Galaxy Note 10’s display is around 0.4mm thick. That’s a big difference and is going to make S Pen support almost impossible.

Samsung has determined, according to this report, that UTG and the transparent PI films that it was using on the original Galaxy Fold, are not suitable for use wit a S Pen.

Basically, that means that it’s going to be a good little while before we see a foldable from Samsung with the S Pen included. Of course, durability is still a concern with foldables, so Samsung is doing some extra testing here to make sure that the S Pen would be a good fit for the device before launching it with the S Pen. Which is smart, after what happened with the original Galaxy Fold last year.

No S Pen Support doesn’t mean the Galaxy Fold 2 is DOA

The Galaxy Fold 2 is still going to be available for the hardcore fans of Samsung and technology in general. Which are those that really want a S Pen for the Galaxy Fold.

But not having S Pen support doesn’t make the Galaxy Fold 2 dead on arrival, fortunately. It’s unfortunate that it won’t be available, but the Galaxy Fold 2 is still shaping up to be a really impressive second-generation product from Samsung.
