How (And Why) To Sign Up For Amazon Prime

Amazon Prime is one of those subscriptions that is a must-have. Amazon already has over 63 million Prime members in the US, which means there are still a few of you out there that don’t have Prime. Why not? If you do any type of online shopping, it more than pays for itself with the free two-day shipping alone. Never mind everything else that Amazon adds in. Which, when it’s all spelled out, it’s almost a steal, with everything you get with Amazon Prime. Maybe this is why Amazon doesn’t have to pay anything in taxes? Either way, it’s a subscription service that you definitely need to sign up for, sooner rather than later.

Those that haven’t signed up for Prime yet, you’ll want to do it before next week. Prime Day kicks off on Monday, July 15 and in order to take advantage of those deals, you’re going to need to be a Prime member. So we’re here to show you how to sign up for Prime, it only takes a minute.

How To Sign Up For Amazon Prime

Signing up for Amazon Prime is pretty simple. Just go to the Amazon Prime page on Amazon’s website and then click on “Try Prime”.

If you’ve never signed up for Prime before, you will get a 30-day free trial (if you have an Amazon Student account, it’ll be six months free), before you end up paying. So you do get a decent amount of time to really try it out.

Next, you’ll want to choose which plan you want. There are a couple of plans now. You can pay for the full year at $119 (which is going to be the cheapest option), or you can pay monthly at $12.99 per month. Now if you only want Prime Video, that’ll be $8.99 per month. The only downside is that there’s no free two-day shipping, and you can’t take part in Prime Day next week.

Now Amazon is going to want you to confirm your credit/debit card that you want to use for Prime.

Once you’ve picked your plan and paid, you’re good to go. Now if you’ve used Prime before, you will be charged right away. If not, then you won’t be charged until after your trial is up – either 30 days or six months depending on the plan.

Why You Should Sign Up For Amazon Prime

Amazon sells everything, quite literally. And with its “Subscribe & Save” products, you can have products sent to the house every month, without worrying about running out of things like toilet paper. And you save money, which is also a good thing. With Prime, you can get all of these products delivered to your home for free. And it’ll be in two days or less. In many metro areas, it is now less than two days. Which is pretty insane.

If next day isn’t soon enough, you might even be able to get your deliveries the same day – in less than two hours. This is available in select cities only, but can be very helpful for those that don’t want to take an Uber to the grocery store to get things for dinner. Or if you just need something really soon, like before the end of the day, and you can’t get it at Best Buy, Walmart or Target. Let’s face it, you probably are impatient to wait a couple of days to get it, and the same-day delivery does come in handy for that too.

Amazon Prime was initially made for this free shipping thing that everyone loves so much. And Amazon has been able to get millions and millions to sign up for its service. It has jumped in price over the past few years, After initially being just $79.99 per year, to now costing users $119 per year. That’s a big jump, but with that jump, Amazon has added much more to the service.

On top of free shipping, you also get a discount when you shop at Whole Foods (which Amazon bought in 2017). You can save up to five-percent at Whole Foods, which isn’t too shabby. You also have the ability to have your packages shipped to Whole Foods and can pick them up from there.

When it comes to entertainment, there is Amazon Prime Video, which has thousands of titles available for you to watch anytime. You can also watch them on virtually any platform. Whether that is Amazon Fire TV, Fire Tablet, iOS, Android, Android TV or really anything else. Amazon has also been making its own movies and TV Shows like The Grand Tour in recent years. So it is competing with Netflix, and as a Prime member, you get it for free.

If you’re a gamer, you get Twitch Prime included, which gives you exclusive loot in different games as well as a monthly channel subscription on Twitch. And every month, the offers change. So the more you game, the more you can get. Finally, there’s an exclusive library from Amazon Music that is available to Prime members for free, without any ads. This has about two million songs, so there’s plenty to check out.

With all of this, you’re getting an absolute steal at just $119 per year, that’s about $10 per month. That’s less than what you’re paying for Netflix, in most cases. And that’s pretty impressive.

Prime Is Especially Great For Students

If you’re a student, Prime is a great deal. Not only can you get a six month trial if you’ve never used Prime before, but you are paying half the price of everyone else for Prime. It’s just $59.99 per year (or $6.49 per month) for Prime. That is a pretty insane price, and you still get all of the features of a regular Prime account.

This includes the same two-day, next-day and same-day delivery (depending on your area), as well as plenty of content from Amazon Prime Video to watch, which is really great for unwinding after a long study session, or just when you have some time to kill between classes. On top of that, you also get Amazon Music Unlimited, and being a student, you probably don’t have the cash to be paying another $10 per month for another streaming service on top of Prime. Making this a great offer.

As a student, you’re going to be buying books and school supplies quite often. Amazon started out as a book store, so of course it likely has all of the textbooks you’ll need. Combined with that fast next-day or even same-day delivery, you really can wait til the last minute to get your books for next semester. Or even get some more printing paper for your printer, or anything else you might need. That’s what really makes this so great for students.

Even looking past just your textbooks and school supplies. What about snacks? Amazon has many snacks available, and they are part of the “Subscribe & Save” program, so you can have them delivered every week, two weeks or monthly and save up to 15-percent (depending on the item). This means that you don’t need to find a way to get to your local Walmart to get these things, and they can be delivered super quick as well. Which makes things so much easier.

Just make sure to sign up for Prime Student if you do have an Amazon Student account.

Wrap Up

These days, we all have multiple subscriptions. Whether its Netflix, Hulu, Sling TV, or something else, we all have a ton that we probably forgot about. And Prime comes in cheaper than a lot of these subscription services. It’s also one that you are going to get a lot more value for your money, from. Especially if you do shop at Amazon or online quite a bit. Just ordering from Amazon a couple of times a year more than pays for Prime.

While it’s unfortunate that Amazon has been going up on the price of Prime over the past decade or so, it isn’t just going up without offering you more features. Amazon is adding more and more to Amazon Prime, making the membership more than worth its cost. If you do watch a lot of TV, then Amazon Prime is going to be well worth the price, even if you don’t really buy a lot of things from Amazon.

But let’s face it, we all order a ton (and we do mean a ton, have you seen how much revenue Amazon brings in each quarter?) from Amazon, and Prime is a great way to get all of that stuff to your home sooner. The important thing though, is that you can’t even take part in Prime Day next week, without being a Prime member. The good news, is that you can still sign up for a free Prime trial and take advantage of the deals next week, and cancel Prime before the 30 days are up. Which is a really cool thing.

If you haven’t already signed up, then what are you waiting for? Go sign up for Prime now.
