Huawei Is About To Announce A New Chipset That None Of Us Will Ever Be Able To Use

Huawei has officially confirmed its presence at IFA 2020 event by scheduling its keynote for September 3. The company’s theme for 2020 IFA keynote is “Huawei’s Vision For A Seamless AI Life.” While the teaser image includes several hardware products, the company might actually announce only its latest Kirin chipset.

Moreover, we can also expect the company to reveal the Mate 40 series’ launch date on the same stage. Based on the previous leaks, the product launch event could take place at the end of September. Alongside the three new Mate 40 smartphones, Huawei might also launch the Mate X2 foldable smartphone.

Huawei’s IFA 2020 keynote scheduled for September 3

Huawei unveiled the Kirin 990 SoC and the Kirin A1 chip during last year’s IFA keynote. The Kirin 990 is the world’s first SoC with an embedded 5G modem and the first SoC to be built on the 7nm+ EUV node. Now, the rumored Kirin chipset will be the first-ever 5nm mobile chipset.

This new chipset produced by Taiwan’s TSMC could be launched as Kirin 1000. With the mounting US sanctions, it could also be the last Kirin chipset. While TSMC stopped working with Huawei on developing new Kirin chipsets, the Chinese company also lacked the infrastructure to produce advanced mobile chipsets on its own.

Expected to announce the new flagship Kirin chipset

Compared to other flagship smartphones, the Huawei Mate 40 without support for Google Mobile Services (GMS) might become an inferior product in the international markets. The Mate 40 lineup will include the Mate 40, Mate 40 Pro, and Mate Pro+.

The company could also offer a glimpse of its proprietary Harmony OS. In the coming months, Huawei might start using the Harmony OS for all its consumer devices except for smartphones. The list includes smartwatches, IoT devices, and even computers.

While it might not be a big deal for Huawei in its home country, it will be interesting to see how the move affects the company’s market share in international markets.

As of now, the company’s MateBook laptops still come powered by Microsoft’s Windows OS. Just last week, the company announced the Huawei MateBook X 2020 with pre-installed Windows 10 Home Edition. As none of the details have been officially confirmed by Huawei, take them with a pinch of salt.

Earlier this month, Huawei’s sub-brand Honor has confirmed its presence at the IFA 2020 event. The company scheduled its keynote for September 4. Unlike Huawei, Honor might make a few product announcements. It will reportedly launch its China-exclusive devices in international markets.
