Huawei P30 Lite Catches Up To Flagship Brethren’s Many Cameras

Huawei is preparing for the release of its spring lineup that will be more crowded than ever, with lines between traditional price brackets being blurred to an unprecedented degree. Cue the P30 Lite, one of the biggest reasons for that state of affairs. The Android smartphone was prematurely sighted in a certification database of China’s telecom authority TENAA earlier today; the listing confirmed many of its previously rumored features and revealed new details about the upcoming handset.

Traditionally a mid-range lineup, the P Lite series has been getting close to its flagship counterparts for several years now, achieving vast generational improvements in terms of processing prowess, multimedia consumptions, mobile photography, and general efficiency. Another such technology jump is now expected from the P30 Lite, particularly in the imaging department.

The P30 Lite will hence be equipped with three rear cameras, i.e. as much as the two high-end models from the same range. Its predecessor was one camera short of its siblings and unsurprisingly didn’t make use of sensors and lenses as advanced as those integrated into the P20 and P20 Pro.

The quality difference should still hold true this year, though general-purpose use likely won’t make that extremely obvious. In other words, as far as taking pictures in well-lit environments at non-extreme distances from your subjects is concerned, the technology is already well past the point of mid-rangers being able to compete with the most premium end of the market.

Huawei P30 Lite’s camera system should still be made and optimized by German optics company Leica, consisting of a wide-angle camera backed by a basic bokeh assistant of sorts, i.e. a lower-resolution module primarily concerned with mapping out scene depth and blurring its background so that the main sensor can “concentrate” on keeping everything properly exposed and in focus.

The addition of a third camera makes things more complicated from a technical perspective but the end-user experienced offered by the P30 Lite should remain unchanged outside of the smartphone’s manual mode and only the results are expected to become better, particularly in low-light scenarios.

The exact camera specifications of the P30 Lite are yet to be revealed and even go unmentioned in TENAA’s listing, which is a rarity for the regulator whose reports are among the most detailed of their kind, at least in regards to publicly disclosed information.

What’s already essentially official is that the P30 Lite will sport a 6.15-inch screen with an FHD+ resolution and a small notch shaped like a waterdrop. Its certificate mentions dimensions of 152.9 x 72.7 x 7.4mm, as well as a 3,240mAh battery, a respectable capacity for an Android handset bound to use a mid-range Kirin 700-series chip from Huawei‘s subsidiary HiSilicon, hence utilizing an SoC series priding itself on its efficiency.

The P30 Lite and the other two members of the P30 family are scheduled to be announced at a dedicated Paris event on March 26. A new Porsche-branded device is also extremely likely to debut at the gathering, albeit as an extremely limited collector’s item.
