LG Has Kicked Off Android 11 Public Beta Testing

LG is not a name to reckon with when it comes to pushing regular updates. A similar scene is seen with the rollout of Android 11 update. There are bittersweet news as LG has now finally begun Android 11 public beta testing, but only for LG Velvet.

Earlier, LG was known as a brand that would release a smartphone regularly. However, new players like OnePlus along with older players like Samsung, crushed and ate the market of LG.

the good thing is that LG has tried to make its comeback (sort of) with the launch of multiple smartphones this year. It launched the LG Velvet, and also the much-hyped LG Wing smartphone.

The latter paves way for a different category of smartphones. The phone has a secondary screen, that swivels to form a T-shape, which is good for media consumption and gaming.

Sadly, when it comes to software updates, LG has still a long way to come at par with its competitors. At times when other OEMs have begun rolling out Android 11 stable updates, LG has just started with the Android 11 public beta process for LG Velvet.

Adding salt to the wound, this Android 11 public beta program for LG Velvet is live for users in South Korea only. Though it should not come as a surprise, as the brand is more popular in its home country.

If we go back in time, for Android 10, LG started beta testing in October 2019 for the LG G8 ThinQ and November for the LG V50 ThinQ. Fast forward to now, it started in December for Android 11 and that too just for LG Velvet.

The delay in the Android 11 beta program by LG indicates that the company is struggling in maintaining even just the software for its mobile devices.

FYI, LG Velvet was announced back in May this year. It sports a 6.8-inch POLED display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 processor, and a triple-camera setup.

Currently, there is no word on if this year’s LG V60 ThinQ or LG Wing 5G will be included in the beta program. This is again an issue of lack of transparency in terms of software update by LG.

If you own the LG Velvet on SKT, KT, and LG U+ and live in South Korea, then you can head over to the LG Quick Help app to grab the Android 11 beta update.

Note that since this is a beta update, there will be bugs and problems. So, make sure you take the necessary precautions and backup your data before installing the Android 11 beta update.
