Mismanaged Launch Of Cyberpunk 2077 Leads To Unhappy Staff

Cyberpunk 2077 has been one of the most highly anticipated games of the year, but it’s launch was anything but desirable.

The game, which comes from CD Projekt SA, a Polish game studio based in Warsaw, was released for PC, PS4, Xbox One (the console versions also work on PS5 and Xbox Series X), and Stadia on December 10. Fans were eager to finally dive into Cyberpunk 2077 after the game’s launch was delayed from its original April 2020 release date.

But the launch hasn’t exactly gone as planed for CD Projekt. Or the the current and former employees that worked on the game for so many years. Last Friday, CD Projekt had an internal video meeting with staff. And employees expressed deep frustration for the game’s terrible release after company executives apologized for the mounting collection of problems.

Players have discovered a large amount of bugs within the game. While some of them have been nothing more than hilarious oddities, some have been game breaking. Others have just been highly inconvenient. From bodies that randomly explored into nothingness when you drop them to corrupted save files.

Troubled Cyberpunk 2077 launch leads to game refunds and store removal

While not everyone is having problems with the game, Cyberpunk 2077 for many is not providing the experience that people had envisioned.

For some, the game will continuously crash on PS5. Meanwhile original PS4 and Xbox One owners are seeing everything from game crashes to missing texture layers. Making parts of the world and characters look like a game from the PS1 era with polygon-based graphics.

After loads of fan backlash during the game’s first week of release, CD Projekt said that fans would be able to get refunds. Both Sony and Microsoft confirmed that they would allow refunds for digital copies of the game.

Sony even went so far as to remove the game from the PlayStation Store temporarily. Which means the only way to get it for PS4 or PS5 right now is to buy the physical copy. If you want it.

Game deadlines were unrealistic

According to staff, both current and former, Cyberpunk 2077 had unrealistic deadlines.

Which suggests that maybe the biggest issue with the state of the game and its multiple delays and countless bugs, was caused in part by deadlines that employees just weren’t going to be able to meet.

While the game’s release has been far from perfect, its pre-order sales were exceedingly strong. Smashing the record for the fastest-selling PC game. A record previously held by World of Warcraft’s Shadowlands expansion that launched back in November.
