Netflix Bans Actors From Mentioning “Binge-Watching” In Interviews

Netflix has been creating its own original content for nearly five years now, and has had plenty of actors doing interviews to promote the content that’s coming to Netflix (or already available). However, it appears that the company does not allow its actors to use the term “binge-watching” in interviews, a term that Netflix basically created. Binge-watching refers to the act of watching multiple episodes of a show in one sitting, something that you can do pretty easily with Netflix. According to Guy Pearce, who was on the Empire Film Podcast recently, Netflix had prohibited him from using the term “binge-watching” when doing interviews to promote the show ‘The Innocents’.

Pearce went on to say that “I don’t think Netflix likes the term ‘binge’. When we did the promotion for ‘The Innocents’, we were strictly sort of instructed beforehand not to talk about ‘binge-watching’”. It does make a bit of sense from Netflix’s perspective. While binge-watching has become a big thing in recent years, when it comes to watching TV, it can also be used for disorders like binge-drinking, and that’s something Netflix likely wants to stay away from. And that makes sense. Pearce did not mention the exact reason why Netflix doesn’t want its actors to use the term in interviews, and it could also be the case that Netflix did not tell any of its talents why. It simply told them not to use them.

Netflix has quite a few actors, and actresses that have shows on its platform now. Since debuting ‘House of Cards’ and ‘Orange is the new Black’ back in 2013 as its first original content series, it has grown to have hundreds of series and movies that are exclusive to Netflix. In fact, these days, a movie or TV show is more likely to be on Netflix than on actual TV. Which shows just how big Netflix is, in the entertainment world these days.
