New Galaxy S21 Teaser Shows Evolution Of The Galaxy S Series

Samsung is all but confirmed to launch the Galaxy S21 series in mid-January. The company has already started teasing the “next Galaxy” and has even opened pre-order reservations for it in the US. Now, Samsung US has posted a teaser video on its official YouTube channel, saying “a new Galaxy awaits.”

The half minute long video does not reveal anything about the upcoming phone. Instead, it shows the evolution of the Galaxy S series over the years. The journey began all the way back in 2010 when Samsung introduced the original Galaxy S. The company has since launched a new Galaxy S phone every year, offering users “new ways to express themselves.”

Each iteration introduced new features and some major design changes. This teaser video specifically shows how the Galaxy S series underwent various design changes over the last decade: from thick bezels and physical home buttons to all-screen designs with punch-hole cameras. The teaser video ends with a stylized “2021” where “21” is highlighted, hinting at the Galaxy S21 branding.

Samsung looks back at the past in this Galaxy S21 teaser

The original Galaxy S featured huge bezels and a big physical home button. Samsung gradually reduced the bezel sizes as well as the size of the physical buttons. The Galaxy S5 arrived in 2014 as the first water-resistant phone in the series.

With the Galaxy S6 in 2015, Samsung significantly reduced the thickness of the phone. This phone also featured a metal and glass build. By the time the Galaxy S8 arrived, the physical home button was gone.

Samsung “reimagined” mobile camera with the Galaxy S9 in 2018, which also paved way for multiple rear cameras. The Galaxy S10 series further improved the cameras and also introduced the punch-hole design to Samsung flagships. The Galaxy S20 is the last model in the series and it came with significant camera upgrades as well, along with slimmer bezels and a centered punch-hole camera.

Samsung is now preparing the Galaxy S21 series for an early 2021 launch and it is expected to feature yet another change in design language. As multiple leaks and rumors over the past couple of months have shown, the rear camera housing now extends directly from the phone’s frame.

Although Samsung has yet to officially announce a launch date for the Galaxy S21 series, multiple reports suggest that the company will hold a virtual launch event on January 14, 2021. We are expecting three models as part of the series: the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and the Galaxy S21 Ultra.

We already know a lot about all three handsets, but an official introduction is still exciting. A couple of weeks more of waiting now before the phones get official.
