New UMIDIGI Z2 Design Leak Suggests In-Display Fingerprint Sensor

There were plenty of announcements made at this year’s MWC event and a number of them were for devices that sported a notch similar to the one found on the iPhone X. Speaking of which, the last month has seen a number of rumors circulating that UMIDIGI was also planning to release a new phone which also seemed to be sporting a notch design. In fact, the company confirmed as much just a few days ago through the release of a new teaser.

This is the UMIDIGI Z2 and since the previous teaser new images have started surfacing and showing what is said to be the back cover of the same phone (like the one shown above). What is interesting about the image above (and the one below) is the lack of a fingerprint sensor on the rear panel. If this is the same phone, and considering the phone is expected to come with an all-screen display including a notch, then it could be the case the new UMIDIGI Z2 will also include an in-display fingerprint sensor. This actually was a rumor which emerged as early as October of last year although since then other rumors (like the notch) have came through, with few details on the fingerprint sensor showing up until now. This does also raise the possibility that this might not actually be the standard UMIDIGI Z2, but instead a second variant, such as an UMIDIGI Z2 Pro.

While it remains to be seen whether or not UMIDIGI will release two versions of the UMIDIGI Z2, other anticipated specs point towards a 6.2-inch display that in addition to the notch, includes an FHD+ resolution. It is also expected the UMIDIGI Z2 will make use of advanced and fast wireless charging. In terms of the availability and pricing, it is now expected the UMIDIGI Z2 will be launched in April of this year and when it does arrive, it will be priced at around $300. A price that would certainly be competitive considering this is a device now rumored to come equipped with an all-screen display, fast wireless charging, and in-display fingerprint sensor.
