New Video Provides Best View Of The Google Pixel 3 Lite So Far

What is said to be the Google Pixel 3 Lite smartphone has now been shown off in a new video, providing a good look at what is currently still an unannounced device.

The video comes courtesy of Andro News which makes it clear that this is a pre-production version of the phone. The video demonstrates the Pixel 3 Lite running and not only provides a glimpse of the software, but also the phone from pretty much every angle.

Although there’s been no official announcement to date, the Google Pixel 3 Lite has been the subject of much speculation over the past few months as the suggestion is this phone will arrive as a more affordable version of the current Pixel 3 and 3 XL phones.

That’s a suggesting borne out in this latest video thanks to the build quality noted as a step-down in comparison, largely due to the primarily plastic body. Although the evidence of the affordability can be seen in other areas as well, such as the inclusion of a single front-facing camera and the lack of an additional auto-focus sensor with the rear-facing camera.

In spite of its perceived lack of quality, Andro News states the camera experience is going to be the major selling point with this phone. To the point where it fares favorable compared to the premium Pixel 3 and 3 XL with the video noting those in the market for a phone mostly for the camera are better off opting for this over the two more expensive options. A bold claim.

The rear camera is said to be a 12.2-megapixel camera with an f/1.8 aperture. This arrives along with the single 8-megapixel front-facing camera.

As for the rest of the specs, Andro News points to a 5.56-inch display along with a 2160 x 1080 resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio. This is in addition to 4GB RAM and 32GB storage, The Pixel 3 Lite will allegedly come powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 SoC, a 2,915 mAh battery, and Android 9 Pie.

The performance of the device was not said to be too adversely affected by the step-down from the Pixel 3 and XL’s Snapdragon 845 to the more mid/upper mid-range 670 SoC – announced in August 2018.

One of the more interesting changes, and either a positive or a negative depending on viewpoint, is this latest video once again confirms the Pixel 3 Lite will come equipped with a 3.5mm headphone port. This is positioned on the top while a USB Type-C port can be found on the bottom.

In terms of the release date, previous reports had pointed to a Spring 2019 launch and specifically through Verizon in the US. This latest leak seems to reiterate the first point although it is a little more specific on the time suggesting the Pixel 3 Lite will launch fairly soon after this year’s Google I/O event – which typically takes place in early May.

Previously, and in addition to the Pixel 3 Lite shown off here, rumors have pointed to two “lite” versions coming to match up with the two currently-available models. In other words, a standard and an XL Lite.
