Nokia Is Planning To Release Phones With… Huawei’s HarmonyOS?

It seems like Huawei won’t be the only company to utilize its HarmonyOS software. According to a new report from China, Nokia is actually looking to release phones with Huawei’s HarmonyOS.

Nokia will pre-installed Huawei’s HarmonyOS on some of its upcoming phones

This information comes from IT Home, and it claims that the Nokia X60 and X60 Pro will run HarmonyOS. Both of those phones are expected to launch in China, though, so this won’t affect the global market. Nokia will stick to regular Android outside of China, it seems.

Now, we don’t know if this means that all upcoming Nokia smartphones in China will ship with HarmonyOS or not. As most of you know, HarmonyOS comes without Google services on it. Google services don’t get pre-installed on smartphones for the Chinese market anyway, so… perhaps this is convenient for Nokia.

Huawei recently released its first smartphones with HarmonyOS (2.0), the Huawei Watch 3, and MatePad Pro 12.6. The OS is also rolling out to some older Huawei phones as we speak.

The two devices will be quite powerful, flagship-grade even

In regards to the Nokia X60 and X60 Pro. Both of those handsets are expected to include a 6,000mAh battery with fast charging, and a ZEISS-branded camera setup. A 200-megapixel main camera was actually rumored for the two devices, well, at least the ‘Pro’ model.

A 144Hz display was also mentioned, along with a flagship processor from Qualcomm. That’s pretty much all the details that we have at the moment. It sure seems like these two phones will be flagship-grade devices, though.

Now, Nokia is not the only Chinese OEM that plans to use HarmonyOS, it seems. Meizu also has plans to do so, while some other OEMs are also allegedly in touch with Huawei. So, we could see quite a few third-party OEMs using Huawei’s new OS.

HarmonyOS is still based on Android, though, it’s based on AOSP (Android Open Source Project). Huawei’s AppGallery app store is actually doing really well, as it grew quite a bit, while the OS itself works really well. As we were able to find out while reviewing the Huawei Watch 3 and MatePad Pro 12.6.
