OnePlus 5 & 5T Get Camera Improvements Via Beta Update

OnePlus has started rolling out OxygenOS 5.1.9 to the OnePlus 6 with camera improvements and Google Lens integration, and it seems like the OnePlus 5 and 5T are getting those very same improvements, but not via a stable update just yet. OnePlus has started pushing out those very same improvements to the two devices via its Open Beta channel, which means that OxygenOS Open Beta 14 and 12 are currently rolling out to the OnePlus 5 and 5T, and the update may already be available to you if you’re running beta software on either of the two devices. If it’s not, you can either wait, or fire up a VPN in order to get it installed, just select ‘Canada’ as your country of choice.

That being said, in its official changelog, OnePlus notes that this update will improve photo clarity, and optimize the camera performance so that the ‘oil painting effect’ is reduced. Many users have been complaining regarding the ‘oil painting effect’ which is found in images taken with some of the company’s devices, as it makes images look rather odd when zoomed in a little bit, so it remains to be seen if this update will amend the issue. In addition to that, the company is also rolling out ‘Google Lens mode’. If you have Google Lens activated on your device, it should be accessible via the OnePlus camera for convenience sake, if not, it will probably not be visible, of course.

OnePlus also noted that the stable update will be really similar to the one that you can see here, and that it is expected to reach both the OnePlus 5 and 5T in the coming weeks. Chances are these are the only changes that the company will push in the stable update, though it remains to be seen if that will be the case. As already mentioned, the OnePlus 6 is already receiving those very same improvements via a stable update, so the OnePlus 5 and 5T cannot be far behind, and the update that the company is rolling out to the OnePlus 6 more or less confirms that no extra additions will be added in a stable update for the OnePlus 5 and 5T, aside from general optimizations and bug fixes.
