OnePlus Hints At New Launch Of OnePlus 5T Lava Red Edition

OnePlus took to its official Twitter feed today to post a mysterious red-colored image alongside the words “24 Hours,” which seems to be tied to a device release. However, this may not actually be all that mysterious since the red in the image clearly resembles the red substance typically found inside of lava lamps. In fact, this seems to suggest that the company’s recently released OnePlus 5T Lava Red Edition is going to be getting a new launch at some point on February 5.

For those who may not recall, this is the same device that just launched in India as of January 10 and is almost identical to the standard OnePlus 5T. That means it packs a Snapdragon 835 SoC, backed by 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, behind a 6.01-inch fullHD+ AMOLED display. That display is set at the new standard ratio of 18:9 and that’s all driven by a non-removable, Dash Charge-enabled 3,300mAh battery. The device runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box, buried under OnePlus’ OxygenOS overlay. Meanwhile, the OnePlus 5T features a dual-camera array at the back – at 20-megapixels and 16-megapixels – with a 16-megapixel front-facing selfie camera on the opposite side. The primary difference between the standard OnePlus 5T and the Lava Red Edition is in its color. The new edition, as is easily guessed from its name, is a striking red color on the back and sides, while the front maintains the initial device’s black coloration.

Because the device already launched in that other region, it may be possible to guess at a price point for it, as well. In India, the device sold for around Rs. 37,999, just like the standard edition of the 5T. That’s around $592 (USD). It stands to reason that OnePlus will carry that pricing over to other regions, placing the cost at near or the same as for the original 5T within a given market. Unfortunately, it isn’t immediately clear from the accompanying message – which reads “Discover the radiance in 24 hours” – whether this will be a global launch. It may be the case that the company only intends to expand the number of regions where its newest 5T is available, rather than releasing it worldwide.
