OnePlus Invests $30 Million In 5G Research & Development
OnePlus has announced that it reserved $30 to invest in 5G research and development. The company wants to “scale up and upgrade 5G research and development labs”.
The company started working on 5G back in 2016, and it has come a long way since then. It released its first 5G smartphone last year, and two more are coming next month.
Both the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro will be 5G-only smartphones, the company said. 5G seems to be one of the company’s main focuses at the moment, which explains this latest investment.
OnePlus decided to invest $30 million in 5G research & development
Pete Lau, the company’s CEO, said that the company has been investing in 5G for years. This new investment only marks OnePlus’ commitment to 5G as a whole. OnePlus deciding to invest $30 million in 5G really does represent a step forward, as it will improve the company’s research and development.
Mr. Lau also said that the company plans to “further develop application scenarios based on the daily usage habits of users, such as cloud gaming, cloud videos, and cloud storage services”.
The OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro will become official in mid-April, if rumors are to be believed. OnePlus did start teasing its upcoming phones, but the company still did not confirm their release date.
The OnePlus 8 Lite was also mentioned in leaks, but that phone is rumored to arrive at a later date. The OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro will be the main focus of the company’s upcoming press conference, it seems.
Both OnePlus 8 flagships will be fueled by the Snapdragon 865, and include 5G
Those two phones will be fueled by the Snapdragon 865, and it will include the Snapdragon X55 modem. That model will be included for 5G connectivity, of course.
Both OnePlus 8 flagships will be made out of metal and glass, and it seems like they’ll look almost identical. The OnePlus 8 Pro is expected to be a bit larger, and to include a bit more powerful camera setup.
Both phones are rumored to include proper certification for water and dust resistance this time around. The ‘Pro’ model is even rumored to sport wireless charging, which would be a first for OnePlus.
You can also expect large batteries to be included in these two phones, and extremely fast wired charging. Both devices will also sport 120Hz displays, though the OnePlus 8 Pro may include a display with higher refresh rate.
Android 10 will come pre-installed on both smartphones, with OnePlus’ OxygenOS skin. Displays on both of these phones will be curved, and you can expect higher price tags than last year, mostly because of 5G.
