Phone Comparisons: Google Pixel 6 vs Apple iPhone 14

In case you own the Pixel 6, and are looking to jump to a different ecosystem, we have just the right comparison for you. In this article, we’ll compare the Google Pixel 6 vs Apple iPhone 14. The iPhone 14 is not exactly the best iPhone out there at the moment, but it’s notably more affordable than its ‘Pro’ sibling. Besides, we’ve already compared the Pixel 6 with the iPhone 14 Pro.

That being said, we’ll first list the specs of both of these phones, and will then move to compare them across a number of other categories. These two phones are quite different in pretty much every way, so take note of that before we jump in. They offer considerably different designs, different camera experiences, different displays, and so on. The software builds are also entirely different, but that’s a whole different story. In any case, let’s jump in.

Google Pixel 6 vs Apple iPhone 14: Design

Both of these phones are made out of aluminum and glass, and that’s basically where the design similarities end. Well, both displays are also flat, but they both look and feel different. The Pixel 6 has a centered display camera hole, while the iPhone 14 includes a display notch. That notch is quite noticeable, and looks quite unseemly, but it enables advanced facial scanning.

The iPhone 14 has flat sides, all around the phone, while the Pixel 6 does not. If you flip the two phones around, you’ll see even more notable differences. The Pixel 6 utilizes a camera visor, which goes from one side of the phone to the other. The iPhone 14 has a more regular-looking camera island in the top-left corner. Both smartphones do include two cameras on the back, and one on the front.

The Pixel 6 does have a larger display, and is larger overall. It’s considerably taller, wider, and thicker than the iPhone 14. It is also heavier than Apple’s offering, by over 30 grams. Both smartphones do offer IP68 certification for water and dust resistance, and both are quite slippery. The iPhone 14 is easier to use with one hand, though, mainly due to its size. They both feel like premium pieces of tech in the hand, but have an entirely different in-hand feel.

Google Pixel 6 vs Apple iPhone 14: Display

The Google Pixel 6 includes a 6.4-inch fullHD+ (2400 x 1080) AMOLED display. That is a flat panel, and it offers a 90Hz refresh rate. It supports HDR10+ content, and it is protected by the Gorilla Glass Victus by Corning. We’re looking at a 20:9 display aspect ratio here, and the phone offers around 411 ppi.

The iPhone 14, on the flip side. Includes a 6.1-inch fullHD+ (2532 x 1170) Super Retina XDR OLED display. That panel is also flat, but it offers a 60Hz refresh rate, so it doesn’t have a high refresh rate. It does support HDR10 content, however, and Dolby Vision too. This panel gets up to 1,200 nits of peak brightness, and it’s protected by the Ceramic Shield glass. The display aspect ratio is 19.5:9, and we’re looking at around 460 ppi here.

Both of these panels are really good, but the Pixel 6 has one advantage, a high refresh rate. Truth be said, Apple does a great job optimizing its panels, so its 60Hz refresh rate won’t be as noticeable as on some other phones, but still, many of you will notice it. Other than that, they’re both really good. Neither panel gets extremely bright in direct sunlight, but I’d say they both get bright enough. They offer vivid colors, deep blacks, and good viewing angles. On top of that, the touch response is also quite good.

Google Pixel 6 vs Apple iPhone 14: Performance

Google’s Pixel 6 handset is fueled by the company’s first-ever mobile SoC, the Tensor. It also comes with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 flash storage. The iPhone 14, on the other hand, is fueled by the Apple A15 Bionic SoC, and it comes with 6GB of RAM. The phone also includes NVMe storage.

Those specs do look really good on paper. Do these phones perform in real life, though? Well, yes, they do. Both phones offer really good performance. The Pixel 6 had its fair share of issues since launch, but Google fixed almost everything by now. Both phones are very smooth in day-to-day performance. They handle multitasking, web browsing, image editing… and everything else you can think of.

When it comes to gaming, the iPhone 14 is the better choice. The Pixel 6 is not really shining when it comes to gaming performance, as it can get bogged down by the most demanding titles, such as Genshin Impact. The iPhone 14 handles even such games with ease. Both phones do get quite warm during gaming sessions, unless they’re really short, of course.

Google Pixel 6 vs Apple iPhone 14: Battery

The Google Pixel 6 comes with a 4,614mAh battery, while the iPhone 14 includes a 3,279mAh unit. iPhones usually have smaller battery packs than Android phones, and the iPhone 14 is also a considerably smaller phone than the Pixel 6, so… there you have it. Just because it has a smaller battery, doesn’t mean it offers worse battery life, though. In fact, you’ll probably get better results with the iPhone 14.

Getting over the 7-hour screen-on-time mark with the iPhone 14 is not a problem, at least based on what we’ve seen. Even hitting the 8-hour mark is a possibility. The Pixel 6 had great battery life up until the Android 13 update, then it dropped considerably, and it’s now good again. If you stick to WiFi, you’ll get great battery life, but with mobile data mixed in, you can expect around 6-7 hours of screen-on time, it all depends. Do note that there are many aspects to battery life numbers, so your mileage may vary.

When it comes to charging, neither phone is particularly fast. The Pixel 6 supports 21W wired, 21W wireless, and 5W reverse wireless charging. The iPhone 14 supports 20W wired, 15W MagSafe wireless, and 7.5W Qi wireless charging. Do note that neither of these two phones includes a charger in the box. You’ll have to get the charger separately.

Google Pixel 6 vs Apple iPhone 14: Cameras

Both of these phones have two cameras on the back, but they provide considerably different results. The Pixel 6 includes a 50-megapixel main camera, and a 12-megapixel ultrawide unit. The iPhone 14 includes a 12-megapixel main camera, and a 12-megapixel ultrawide unit. The iPhone 14’s ultrawide camera does offer a wider FoV, in case you were wondering.

Both phones are truly capable when it comes to taking pictures and videos. We do prefer the Pixel 6 for pictures, and the iPhone 14 for video, though. Why? Well, the Pixel 6 usually takes a better photo. Photos from the Pixel 6 pop a bit more, while the phone does a better job in HDR situations. It’s also usually the better of the two in low light conditions. The iPhone 14 images are closer to real life, though, but it tends to struggle in HDR conditions, as it has a tendency to overblow the highlights.

When it comes to video, the iPhone 14 is better across the board. The footage ends up looking better, and is more stable, with less artifacting or anything of the sort. iPhones are usually the best choice for video recording, and this time around it’s no different. So each phone is great for a specific camera-related task, though both do a good job overall.

Audio

Both the Pixel 6 and iPhone 14 include a set of stereo speakers. Speakers on both phones are very good, but not the best out there, not even close. They are loud enough, and provide enough punch, while the distortion is not that noticeable even on the highest of volumes. These are not the loudest or the cleanest speakers out there, but they do the job well.

You will not find a 3.5mm headphone jack on either of these two phones. The Pixel 6 and iPhone 14 do include Type-C and Lightning ports, respectively, which you can use for wired audio connections. If you prefer a wireless connection for your headphones, there’s always Bluetooth 5.2 and 5.3 which these two phones support, respectively.
