Design

Both the LG G8 Thinq and Galaxy Note 10+ are made out of metal and glass, but they’re quite different still. The LG G8 ThinQ is much easier to handle in one hand, as it’s a lot smaller. The LG G8 ThinQ is also considerably curvier phone, and it comes with rounded edges.

The Galaxy Note 10+ has sharp edges, and was less curves than the LG G8 ThinQ. The LG G8 ThinQ includes a display notch on the front, and that notch is not the smallest we’ve seen. The phone also sports a “chin” below the display.

The Galaxy Note 10+, on the other hand, features a small display camera hole at the top of the display. The phone also has a “chin” below the display, but it is extremely thin. The Galaxy Note 10+ has thinner bezels overall, no doubt about that.

The LG G8 ThinQ features two cameras on the back (at least the US model does), and those cameras are horizontally-aligned. Below those two cameras, you’ll notice a fingerprint scanner. The Galaxy Note 10+ features three vertically-aligned cameras on the back, and the fourth one next to those three. This phone does not have a fingerprint scanner on the back, its fingerprint scanner is located under the display.

Both the LG G8 ThinQ and Galaxy Note 10+ feature OLED displays. In fact, both phones feature QHD+ OLED panels, though they’re quite different. The LG G8 ThinQ features a 6.1-inch QHD+ (3120 x 1440) P-OLED panel. The Galaxy Note 10+, on the other hand, comes with a 6.8-inch QHD+ (3040 x 1440) Dynamic AMOLED display.

The LG G8 ThinQ’s display is protected by a sheet of Gorilla Glass 5. The Galaxy Note 10+ features a newer version of it, the Gorilla Glass 6. The G8 ThinQ supports HDR10 output, while Samsung’s flagship offers an HDR10+ certified display. The G8 ThinQ’s display offers Dolby Vision output as well.

Both of these displays are really, really good. There’s no doubt about that. The Galaxy Note 10+’s panel is a step above the LG G8 ThinQ’s, though. Not only does it offer better protection, but it also looks better in real life. Colors seem to be punchier, and the overall impression seems to be a bit better.

Performance

The LG G8 ThinQ had some performance-related issues when it was released. The device actually stuttered during simple scrolling, and when it comes to browsing in general. Those issues were not huge, and LG did fix them since then.

Having said that, the Galaxy Note 10+ does feel smoother in terms of performance. It could be because it’s brand new, but it just feels smoother overall. Both devices come with Android 9 Pie, and proprietary skins from LG and Samsung. In other words, both phones pack in a fair share of bloat. That doesn’t seem to bother them all that much, at least not yet.

Both are quite powerful in the hardware department as well. The LG G8 ThinQ is fueled by the Snapdragon 855 SoC, and comes with 6GB of RAM. The Galaxy Note 10+ is fueled by the Snapdragon 855 or Exynos 9825, depending on the market. The phone is equipped with 12GB of RAM.

Battery life

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ does feature a considerably larger battery than the LG G8 ThinQ. It does include a considerably larger display as well, so that is not surprising. The LG G8 ThinQ features a 3,500mAh unit, while the Galaxy Note 10+ comes with a 4,300mAh battery.

Battery capacity does not mean much if the phone isn’t well-optimized. Well, in this case, the Galaxy Note 10+ does seem to be well-optimized for power consumption. You should be able to get 6+ hours of screen on time on a regular basis, or at least cross that 6-hour mark.

The LG G8 ThinQ is not that great in the battery life department. It had average battery life at best, and if you’re a heavy user, you will probably have to top off the phone before the end of the day.

The Galaxy Note 10+ also offers faster charging than the LG G8 ThinQ. The G8 ThinQ features 21W fast wired charging, while the Galaxy Note 10+ supports wired charging up to 45W. It comes with a 25W charger, though, so you’ll need to purchase a separate one in order to utilize 45W charging.

Both phones offer wireless charging as well, but the Galaxy Note 10+’s wireless charging is considerably faster (9W vs 15-20W). The Galaxy Note 10+ also offers reverse wireless charging, which is something the G8 ThinQ does not include.

Cameras

The LG G8 ThinQ managed to disappoint us a bit in low light when we reviewed it. The phone managed to offer really solid performance in good lighting, but in low light, not so much. Pictures ended up being darker than we would have wanted, while its dedicated dark mode produced images that are almost identical to the ones shot in auto mode.

LG did improve the performance of the G8 ThinQ’s camera in low light since then, quite a bit. That is worth noting, but it still cannot compete with the Galaxy Note 10+. Both phones will provide great pictures in good lighting conditions, though, with great dynamic range, and colors.

The US model of the LG G8 ThinQ has two cameras on the back, it lacks a dedicated telephoto camera. The Galaxy Note 10+ has both an ultrawide angle camera, and a telephoto one, by the way.

As far as front-facing cameras are concerned, neither is great. They both produce good pictures, but nothing earth-shattering. All in all, the Galaxy Note 10+ is a better buy if you need great cameras on a phone.

Audio

LG’s V series devices are often lauded as being the best audio smartphones in the market. Well, that’s not the case with the LG G8 ThinQ, unfortunately. The phone does include a 3.5mm headphone jack, unlike the Galaxy Note 10+, but that’s the only advantage it has.

The Galaxy Note 10+ features stereo speakers, while the LG G8 ThinQ does not. It also supports 32-bit/384kHz audio output, while the LG G8 ThinQ caps out at 32-bit/192kHz.

The LG G8 ThinQ comes with DTS:X Surround Sound, while the Galaxy Note 10+ offers Dolby Atmos sound, and AKG-tuned speakers. The Galaxy Note 10+ offers sharper and clearer sound with both headphones plugged in, and via its speakers. Samsung’s flagship is the winner of this comparison.

Conclusion

On top of everything we’ve mentioned, it is worth saying that the Galaxy Note 10+ has a stylus. The S Pen that Samsung included has some powerful features up its sleeve. We did not mention it earlier because we don’t have anything to compare it to, as the LG G8 ThinQ does not have a stylus.

So, who’s the winner in the LG G8 ThinQ vs Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ comparison? That much is clear, it’s Samsung’s flagship. We don’t often get such results when comparing two flagships, but the Galaxy Note 10+ won in pretty much every category. The LG G8 ThinQ is not a bad phone, at all, and it may be a good option for less cash. In the LG G8 ThinQ vs Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ comparison, the Galaxy Note 10+ is a better phone, though, no doubt about that.
