Pre-Registrations For New Might & Magic Android Game Go Live

Ubisoft is now accepting pre-registrations for Might & Magic: Elemental Guardians, a new entry in the 34-year-old series of strategy role-playing games. The upcoming mobile title still appears to have been designed as an RPG, albeit one that’s more suitable for playing on the go, featuring shorter battles and an automated mode that will see your heroes engage foes on their own. Battles now appear to be arena-based and don’t allow for units to be moved on a grid in turns à la Fire Emblem and Advance Wars. The somewhat grounded visual style of the series has also been abandoned in favor of a more picturesque aesthetic, though leveling mechanics still appear to be part of the package, even though the first trailer suggests they’re more akin to MOBA titles than what previous installments in the Might & Magic franchise featured.

The upcoming mobile game doesn’t have a firm release date attached to it but the fact that it’s now up for pre-registrations on the Google Play Store and Ubisoft’s previous product practices are indicative of a spring launch. Players will be able to choose from over 400 heroes to add to their party, with the main focus of Might & Magic: Elemental Guardians being PvP battles, i.e. multiplayer. The new title isn’t the first Might & Magic spinoff for phones, with Gameloft previously authoring Might & Magic Mobile and Might & Magic Mobile II which were released for Java ME-powered devices in 2004 and 2007, respectively.

Ubisoft is expected to finish the first quarter of the year on a strong note, largely due to the upcoming release of Far Cry 5 scheduled for March 27. The Rennes, France-based game developer-publisher has recently been exploring a wide variety of new technologies that could improve its offerings, including an artificial intelligence solution that catches bugs before they’re compiled and Agones, a dedicated multiplayer game hosting platform on which it partnered with Google Cloud.
