Reliable Leaker Contradicts The “No Physical Buttons” Galaxy Note10 Rumor

On Thursday, a rumor surfaced (agreeing with a few other rumors and leaks) that Samsung would be ditching physical buttons on the Galaxy Note10. Now, reliable Samsung leaker, Ice Universe, has contradicted that rumor. Stating that Samsung will be keeping physical buttons on the Galaxy Note10.

Ice Universe does note that there was an early engineering sample that did not include physical buttons. But that sample did not pass Samsung’s rigorous testing. And that the final version of the Galaxy Note10 will indeed have some physical buttons. So that puts that rumor to rest, for now.

A follow up tweet mentioned the headphone jack, basically saying that it is gone.

The headphone jack being killed off is something that we’ve seen coming from Samsung for a while. Especially after it launched the Galaxy A8s and the Galaxy Fold this year without a headphone jack. So it was only a matter of time before it’s popular flagship lines (Galaxy S and Galaxy Note) lost the headphone jack now.

This is likely not that big of a deal, considering the fact that most people have already moved over to wireless headphones, or even USB-C headphones. Samsung will still likely bundle a dongle in the box, so you can use your existing headphones with the Galaxy Note10 though. But as for a headphone jack, yeah, it’s gone.

With this news, a lot of conspiracy theories have popped up. Including some thinking that since Samsung started bundling those premium AKG headphones in the box, users have stopped buying headphones – because they were so good. Since Samsung owns HARMAN and makes their own headphones on the Level-On brand, this is an invested interest for them.

The Galaxy Note10 is already shaping up to be a pretty impressive smartphone from Samsung. Of course, that’s something we say nearly every year, when it comes to Samsung and its flagship devices. The Galaxy Note10 is also rumored to be coming in two sizes, with a larger one and a smaller one being available. Additionally, it’ll sport the latest specs, including a Snapdragon 855 chipset at least 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage (though 256GB is more likely). Which is bound to make Galaxy Note owners pretty ecstatic and more likely to upgrade from their older smartphone.

There’s still a few months to go before Samsung announces the Galaxy Note10 though. Samsung typically announces it around the middle of August, or a bit earlier. This is to beat the iPhone to store shelves, and also overshadow its competitors at IFA which takes place at the end of the month – and where most smartphones for the Fall get announced. So expect the same this year.

Keep in mind that just because the Galaxy Note10 isn’t ditching the physical buttons, that doesn’t mean that Samsung won’t be doing this in a future smartphone. It could even happen with the Galaxy S11 next Spring. But as always, we’ll have to wait and see. The bigger deal here is definitely the loss of the headphone jack though.
