Samsung Galaxy J6 Plus Rumored To Include Snapdragon 450 SoC

Samsung is rumored to add a new smartphone to its lower mid-range Galaxy J series in the coming weeks. One of the contributors at XDA Developers discovered some firmware files for a Galaxy J device bearing a placeholder name “j6plte”, which has been interpreted into the model name “Samsung J6-Plus LTE CIS SER”. Based on this interpretation, the report adds that the budget Android smartphone could be launched in Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and Serbia (SER) besides other international markets. As per the provided information, the handset could come powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chipset instead of now-ageing Samsung’s in-house Exynos 7870 that was recently seen powering the Galaxy J6 mid-range smartphone. The higher-end Galaxy J8 announced alongside the J6 comes equipped with Snapdragon 450, which is supposed to provide a slightly better performance over the 7870.

Other specifications of the rumored Galaxy J6 Plus include a significantly larger 4,350mah battery, while the J6 features a 3,000mAh one. Both the devices are mentioned to share the same Super AMOLED display measuring 5.6 inches diagonally in an 18.5:9 aspect ratio with a resolution of 1,480 x 720 pixels. A dual-camera setup is said to be placed on the phones back where a fingerprint scanner will also be placed, possibly in a similar arrangement as seen on the Galaxy J8 smartphone launched a few weeks back. The front will continue having a single camera paired with an LED flash. Neither the storage and RAM options nor the pricing of the J6 Plus could be revealed at this point in time. India was one of the first countries where the South Korean giant launched its budget lineup and the Galaxy J6 Plus is also speculated to arrive in the South Asian country in an initial roll-out phase.

The budget-friendly Galaxy J6 sporting an Infinity Display was announced this May in India and other emerging markets to cater to the ballooning entry-level and mid-range smartphone market. It was accompanied by the Galaxy J8 that features marginally improved specifications including a larger display, a secondary rear-facing camera, and a larger display. Samsung recently announced the Galaxy On6 in the Indian market which sports more or less the same internals and design as the Galaxy J6 and is being marketed as a distinct budget Galaxy model. The latter smartphone was recently announced in the UK early last month with the same set of specifications as its Indian variant.
