Samsung Galaxy S21 May Feature Under-Display Camera Tech

Samsung may utilize under-display camera technology on the Galaxy S21 next year. This information comes from Ice Universe, a well-known tipster.

The Galaxy S21 may become Samsung’s first device(s) to offer under-display camera tech

If this ends up happening, the Galaxy S21 will become the first smartphone (series) from the company to offer such tech. The Galaxy Note 20 and Fold 2 almost certainly will not include an under-display camera.

That technology doesn’t seem to be ready for primetime, but it may be next year. We’ve already seen the technology demoed by several companies, including Xiaomi and Vivo.

Based on the camera samples that were provided as a result, that tech seems to be close to being ready. So, this timeline actually fits really well. Samsung may not be the first company to use it, though.

Chances are that either Xiaomi, Vivo or OPPO will include it in a smartphone first. Those companies have been hard-at-work when it comes to this tech, and seem to be the closest to actually use it in a commercial smartphone.

An under-display camera technology will solve quite a few design issues for companies. We’ll be seeing a lot less smartphones with display notches and holes. It will essentially do the same thing as pop-up cameras, but in a more refined way.

Such technology will not require any moving parts to be included in a phone, unlike a pop-up camera. The only thing that may happen is… smartphones may end up look awfully similar, especially from the front.

Xiaomi, VIvo, and / or OPPO will probably beat Samsung to the punch

We’re sure that companies will find a way to differentiate, though. Xiaomi, OPPO, and / or Vivo may release a phone with under-display camera tech as early as this year.

The Galaxy S21’s announcement is still about nine months away. Therefore, we don’t really have any information about the device at this point. The Galaxy Note 20 and Fold 2 are in Samsung’s focus at the moment.

Those two devices will allegedly launch in time. Samsung is not planning to delay their launch date because of the current outbreak that the world is battling. The company is probably expecting the whole situation to be over by then, or something of the sort.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and Fold 2 will allegedly launch at the same time. Both devices are expected to become official in August. Samsung will probably announce them during an online-only event, unless the whole health crisis blows over by then.

The Galaxy Note 20 will probably resemble the Galaxy S20 series. The Fold 2, on the other hand, is expected to include a display camera hole, instead of that unseemly notch the first-gen model offered. It will also include a larger outer display, most probably.
