Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus Updated With Camera Improvements

Samsung is rolling out a new update to the Galaxy S9 Plus, promising improved performance for the front-facing camera, a newer Android security patch, and the usual stability and functionality improvements. The rollout began today for the Galaxy S9 Plus carrying the model number SM-G965F (Exynos variant) and is reportedly already available for download in Germany, with other countries likely to follow suit in the coming days or weeks. Of note is that according to Samsung’s online documentation, the Galaxy S9 hasn’t received the update just yet, but that could change at any moment.

The changelog specifies that face detection has been improved specifically in backlit conditions, and faces should now be captured at improved brightness levels. As for the Android security level, evidently, the latest update introduces the October security patch, since the September patch was launched roughly one month ago when build number “G965FXXS2BRI1” rolled out. The latest build number is labeled as “G965FXXU2BRJ3” and the package should weigh around 250MB. As for the Samsung Galaxy S9 bearing the model number SM-G960F, the OEM’s online documents suggest that, as of this writing, the non-Plus variant is lagging behind and has yet to receive these latest improvements over-the-air, with the latest update being released last week along with improvements to the Game Launcher. On the other hand, SamMobile reports that the update is now available on both phones in Germany, and the package rolled out for the Galaxy S9 is identified by the firmware version “G960FXXU2BRJ3.” Having said that, it is possible that both phones are treated equally with this latest update, but Samsung’s online documentation is lagging a bit behind.

Both smartphone models still run Android 8.0 Oreo but the OEM is working on launching Android 9 Pie on the ongoing flagships, with various reports indicating that Samsung is currently testing the software. Once it will be ready for widespread deployment, Android 9 Pie is also likely to introduce a newer version of the Samsung Experience skin, featuring various changes to the UI. Samsung hasn’t issued any details about a potential rollout timeframe for Android 9 Pie, but as usual, it’s likely that eligible Samsung smartphone users will be invited to a beta testing period before the public release. As far as the latest Oreo update is concerned, it should be accompanied by a notification, and otherwise, users should be able to download the software manually from the Settings application.
