Sandstone White Variant Of The OnePlus 5T Now Official

The Sandstone White variant of the OnePlus 5T was officially announced on Thursday, shortly after the Chinese phone maker started teasing it. The revision is meant to encompass a limited production run, though it’s still unclear how many units is OnePlus planning to manufacture. As was the case with other special variants of the OnePlus 5T, the Sandstone White model is a somewhat redesigned version of the most powerful member of the recently introduced flagship family, i.e. the one which ships with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal flash memory. Consumers who are willing to save some money by settling with half the storage space and 6GB of RAM can still only purchase the Midnight Black model.

The new white finish was specifically designed to be reminiscent of the Silk White variant of the original OnePlus One but still tries to stand out by featuring a sandstone-like texture, the company said. A bright red alert slider is also part of the package, having been made with a combination of anode technologies and aluminum alloy polishing. The entire process of creating a realistic sandstone texture is said to be relatively complex and involves four phases that take 75 minutes per unit, which is understood to be the primary reason why the new revision of the OnePlus 5T won’t be available in large quantities. The BBK Electronics-owned original equipment manufacturer also claims this is the most expensive smartphone it ever produced due to the low yield rates achieved by its production techniques, even though the finished product still carries a price tag of $559 (€559 or £499) that’s attached to the regular 8GB variant of the smartphone. The OnePlus 5T Sandstone White will go on sale on Tuesday, January 9th, at 10 AM local time in all of the company’s target markets.

OnePlus may not be done with its OnePlus 5T revisions following the release of the Sandstone White model, with a possible Soft Gold variant of the same Android flagship recently leaking online. Besides the standard Midnight Black color, the OnePlus 5T was also previously introduced with a Lava Red finish that’s exclusively sold in China, whereas the Star Wars Edition of the smartphone enjoys a somewhat wider availability and can be purchased in a number of markets ranging from Central Europe to India.
