September Update Reaches Galaxy Z Flip, Note 10 & More Stateside

Samsung is rapidly pushing the September 2021 Android security update to its Galaxy smartphones and tablets. Over the past few days, the company has released the update to the unlocked Galaxy Note 10, carrier-locked Galaxy Z Flip, carrier-locked Galaxy S10, and the Galaxy A50 mid-ranger.

The Korean firm earlier this month confirmed that the September security maintenance release (SMR) contains fixes for more than 60 vulnerabilities found in Android OS as well as its custom skin, i.e. One UI, with at least three of them being “critical” issues. Almost two dozen of those were Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) items. These issues only affect Samsung smartphones and tablets. Fixes for all these issues are now rolling out to a bunch of Galaxy devices.

To start with, the unlocked units of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 10 series in the US are receiving the September security update with the firmware version N97xU1UES7FUH7. The new software is unlikely to bring anything else apart from the latest vulnerability fixes detailed above. But both the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ are eligible for the Android 12-based One UI 4.0 upgrade. So there’s plenty to look forward to in the coming months.

The same goes for the Galaxy Z Flip as well, which is currently picking up the latest SMR on Sprint’s network. Other carriers will join the party soon. The new firmware version is F700USQS4EUI1 and we aren’t expecting any new features here as well. This clamshell folding phone is also eligible for the One UI 4.0 upgrade.

The Galaxy S10 series, including the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+, and the Galaxy S10 5G, are receiving the new security update with the firmware version G97xUSQS6GUI1. Once again, don’t be hopeful of any new features until the One UI 4.0 update arrives in a few months. The 2019 Galaxy flagships are currently receiving the new software update on Xfinity Mobile’s network. However, it’s only a matter of time before the update reaches units on other carriers.

The Galaxy A50 also receiving the September update

It’s not just flagship models that are receiving this month’s security update from Samsung. Popular 2019 mid-ranger Galaxy A50 is also picking up the latest SMR stateside. The device is receiving the new update on Comcast with the firmware version A505USQSFDUI1. It isn’t likely getting any new features with this update. Perhaps the phone will no longer receive major feature updates as it isn’t eligible for One UI 4.0. The Galaxy A50 arrived running Android 9 Pie in early 2019 and has already received two major Android OS updates.
