Sony Xperia XZ4 Leak Hints At Familiar Fingerprint Scanner

The Sony Xperia XZ4 is expected to arrive next month, during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, and the phone’s home screen has just appeared in China. One home screen image has surfaced on Weibo (Chinese social network), and it was applied on a render of the leaked Xperia XZ4, so that you may see what it may end up looking like once the phone becomes official.

Now, aside from featuring a really tall display aspect ratio, this image also reveals that Sony will finally adopt navigation gestures, at least to a degree. If you take a look at the provided image, you will see Google’s Android 9 Pie navigation bar on the bottom of the display, the infamous “pill”. Many people think Google’s new navigation bar and gestures are half-baked but it seems like the Xperia XZ3 will offer those as an option. Sony will hopefully leave on-screen buttons as a choice, while it would be nice to see the company’s very own approach to navigation gestures as well.

On top of that, you will also notice a rather odd white line on the right side of the display… so, what’s that about? Well, this may have something to do with Sony’s Side Sense, a feature which was released with the Xperia XZ3. Side Sense basically allows you to perform a double tap on the side of the phone in order to call upon a list of AI-curated app shortcuts.

An MWC to remember

Sony had scheduled its MWC 2019 press conference quite recently, the company had confirmed that it will host such a press conference on February 25 in Barcelona. A major phone launch has been confirmed as well, and it’s pretty obvious that the Xperia XZ4 will make an appearance.

The Sony Xperia XZ4 is rumored to ship with a 21:9 display aspect ratio, which is quite a step away from current 19:9 and 19.5:9 display aspect ratios, that most manufacturers utilize. The phone will probably be made out of metal and glass, and as you can see, it will be quite tall thanks to that display aspect ratio.

The Xperia XZ4 will include bezels above and below the display, though those bezels will not be thick. The phone will ship without a display notch or a hole-punch in the display, while the device’s cameras are expected to be vertically aligned on the back.

The phone will ship with an OLED display, just like the Xperia XZ3, though we still do not know what resolution will Sony opt for. The phone will ship with Android 9 Pie out of the box, with Sony’s custom overlay on top of Android. The device is expected to utilize at least 6GB of RAM, while a large battery is expected as well, as that is one category the Xperia XZ3 failed at.

Xperia “Compact” Is No More

Sony’s exec recently hinted that the Xperia XZ4 Compact will not become official during MWC 2019, while he also hinted that the company may not release another “Compact” smartphone. He simply said that consumers prefer larger displays these days, while he also said that releasing Xperia Compact phones made sense up to this point… which is an indication that the Xperia XZ4 Compact may not become official. Many people will find that quite disappointing, as finding smaller flagship Android devices these days is not an easy task, there are a couple of companies that still make them, but that number is shrinking constantly.
