T-Mobile Creates Holiday For Carrier Breakups Ahead Of Valentine’s
In the true Valentine’s Day spirit, T-Mobile has teamed up with holiday observation helper National Day Calendar to create a new holiday specifically for calling off a relationship with competing carriers just before holiday. Dubbed “National Break Up With Your Carrier Day,” the event is now listed on National Day Calendar and calls for customers to leave their ‘loveless relationship’ for a better match — namely, T-Mobile.
The holiday kicks off February 13 and includes a couple of different promotions, centered around the idea that consumers should spend the traditional holiday celebrating love and relationships with a carrier that fulfills their needs.
First, T-Mobile has announced that its “#GetOutoftheRed” promotion, extended to Verizon customers and offering to help consumers pay off remaining phone debt, now includes Google’s Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, as well as iPhones. Starting February 13, Verizon customers with those devices or previously included gadgets can switch over to T-Mobile’s ONE Plus and T-Mobile will pay off up to $650 of remaining balance owed toward the smartphones.
Users who want to switch can also get two lines and two new Smartphones at $100 per month on T-Mobile’s Essentials plan with AutoPay, paid out via 24 monthly bill credits. The service provider lists the budget-friendly T-Mobile REVVL, REVVL Plus, REVVL 2, LG Aristo, Aristo 2 Plus, K20 Plus, and Motorola e5 Play as eligible devices. Bumping up to a T-Mobile ONE plan costs $130 per month with taxes and fees, Netflix, and travel benefits included.
The company is offering to pay off up to $650 per line through a trade-in credit and a prepaid card for other users who leave their carrier as well.
Tell T-Mobile your best breakup story
In conjunction with the National Break Up With Your Carrier Day promotions, T-Mobile is also running a social media campaign through its @TMobile Twitter handle. Followers of that handle can share their best breakup story from any type of relationship whether a love interest or the barber with the hashtag #MyFunnyBreakUpStory.
Participation is open to anybody and CEO John Legere will hand out prizes to those who posted his favorite stories on Valentine’s Day. Free smartphones will be among the prizes handed out but the carrier hasn’t provided details on exactly how many prizes will be awarded or what devices those will be.
Betting on its reputation
T-Mobile’s latest promotion isn’t without basis in reality with consideration for its continued domination of customer satisfaction surveys, culminating in yet another J.D. Power award in early February. It may not be surprising that the carrier has aimed directly at rival provider Verizon either since the company has consistently held onto its position just behind T-Mobile in those rankings. By taking on Verizon directly in terms of customer satisfaction, T-mobile appears to be looking to break that trend and widen the gap.
The rankings are arguably the result of T-Mobile’s Team of Experts service launched in late 2018, which offers consumers a full group of experts for support instead of the usual robotic answering service and all-too-common call bouncing. The teams work off-script, provide long-term customer care, and allow scheduled tech help.
