The Galaxy A Series May Get A Big Camera Upgrade Next Year

Samsung might be giving the Galaxy A (2020) series of smartphones, some pretty big camera upgrades. And it’s definitely about time that it got one.

According to an image that leaked out, showing the camera specs for the Galaxy A Series 2020, there’s some big camera upgrades across the board. From the Galaxy A21 to the Galaxy A91. The Galaxy A91 is perhaps the most intriguing. As it will house the new 108-megapixel camera sensor that was just announced by Samsung, as its main camera. It will also add a 16-megapixel wide sensor, a 12-megapixel telephoto and a Time of Flight sensor. It also gets 5x Optical zoom.

The Galaxy A91 isn’t the only one to get a ToF sensor though. Galaxy A71 and Galaxy A81 will also get those. The Galaxy A81 gets a 64-megapixel main sensor, a 16-megapixel wide-angle, 12-megapixel telephoto, and then the ToF. With either a 2x or 5x Optical Zoom feature. The Galaxy A81 is somewhat similar, with a 48-megapixel main sensor, and then a 12-megapixel wide-angle and telephoto lenses, as well as a ToF and 2x Optical zoom.

The lower-end A series are also getting a triple-camera setup. With the Galaxy A21 getting a 13-megapixel main sensor, 8-megapixel wide-angle and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. The Galaxy A31 and Galaxy A41 have similar setups, with the main sensor being a 16-megapixel and 24-megapixel sensor, respectively.

Seeing the Time of Flight sensors making their way onto some of the more high-end Galaxy A smartphones is a bit surprising. So far, they’ve really only been found on premium smartphones. And in fact, the Galaxy Note 10 doesn’t even have one – only the Galaxy Note 10 Plus. That just shows you how much the ToF sensor is likely to become mainstream in the next year or so. We’ll likely be seeing it on other mid-range smartphones as well.

Samsung’s Galaxy A series have been making a pretty big impact around the world, in recent years. They often times will sport features that are similar to the Galaxy S or Galaxy Note series, but at a much cheaper price. And with those smartphones crossing the $999 mark, it makes the Galaxy A series even more important to Samsung. Seeing as those that are buying the Galaxy S or Galaxy Note are most likely not going to upgrade every year. But those spending around $300-$500 on a Galaxy A smartphone, might.

In recent years, Samsung has had to up their game when it comes to mid-range and low-end smartphones. While it has the flagship or premium market cornered, where its competitors are making their money is with the cheaper smartphones. While they have lower profit margins, that’s where Samsung is going to sell millions of devices, without really trying. Not everyone can afford – nor want to pay – $1000 for a new smartphone. But bring something like the Galaxy A91 for about half the price, and that’s going to be a much different story.

The Galaxy A Series 2020 is turning out to be a pretty solid line of smartphones. We’ll have to wait until next year to see if anyone can compete with it.
