Uber is quite probably the best-known taxi / ride-sharing service at the moment. It has been that way for a long time at this point. Many competing services popped up in the meantime, but Uber remained the best-known one. The premise of this app / service is simple, you can easily hail a taxi to come and pick you up by simply using the app. It will access your location, and let the driver know where to come.

Once you arrive at your destination, you’ll need to pay for the ride, and that’s it. You’ll know exactly how much you’ll need to pay beforehand, as the app will show you. You can pay for your rides with both PayPal and Google Pay, without a problem. It’s also possible to check out the drivers beforehand so that you know exactly who’s coming for you. Don’t forget to rate your drive(r) once the ride is over.

Lyft is a direct competitor to Uber. This service / app works in a very similar way, and it has the same goal, to get you to the place you’d like to go. Lyft is also immensely popular. You’ll also be able to hail a cab from the app, and see the price beforehand. Checking drivers is also an option here, while you can also split the cost of a ride with a friend, if that’s what you want to do.

That’s not all, though. Lyft does support a driver ranking system, and on top of that, it offers liability insurance for its passengers. It also offers you to choose from 9 different ways to go. You can look for the most affordable route, the most direct route, and so forth. There are quite a few options included in the app itself, and the app’s design is quite modern, which is always nice to see.

  • Google Play rating: 4.7 out of 5 stars

Bolt is yet another taxi / ride-sharing service that is immensely popular in the general scheme of things, but only in some regions. This company is based in Estonia, and some of you may know it by its old name, Taxify. The Bolt app looks great too, and it has a number of options that you may find interesting. It allows you to see the price of your ride before you decided to order it.

Once you’re done with the ride, you can pay with a credit or debit card, or cash, if you choose to do so. There are a number of safety features that you have access to, and using this application is a piece of cake. You can, and should rate your driver in this app as well, that is one of the most crucial features of any similar app. That way others will know whether to trust a particular driver or to avoid him/her for whatever reason.

Cabify

  • In-app purchases: No
  • Size: 86MB
  • Google Play rating: 4.1 out of 5 stars

Cabify is a service very similar to the first three we’ve listed. This company comes from Spain, and the availability of this service is also limited to some regions. All you have to do is open the app, choose your destination, and choose the type of vehicle you’d like to travel in. There are quite a few choices here, ranging from a scooter and a bicycle to a moped and a car, it’s up to you.

Cabify will also show you the price of your ride before you order it, which is what people prefer, of course. You can even choose various preferences, such as music, whether you’d like the air conditioning to be turned on, and whether you prefer to speak to the driver or not. Much like the first three apps on the list, this one also has a great UI design, and it’s a joy to use because of it.

Gett has been around for quite some time now, since 2010. This service was first known as ‘Gettaxi’, but it became only ‘Gett’ at one point. This service allows you to schedule rides for later, and for the most part, the service / app functions in a similar way to the first four we’ve talked about, but with some differences. The app design is spot on, and you can share your ride rating after the ride has concluded.

This app allows you to organize corporate fleets, and even get access to limo providers in a single spot. Gett has a wide range of availability, as it’s available in cities across the globe. You can easily track ride progress via the app, and also access your trip histories. If you’d like to know more about your driver, that’s possible as well. Every city has a customized travel policy as well.

  • Size: Varies with device
  • Google Play rating: 4.3 out of 5 stars

FREE NOW is not exactly as widely available as some other services on the list. It was launched in 2019, but it has really nice ratings, and it seems to be quite reliable. If it’s available in your region, you may want to give it a go. This app also competes directly with Uber and using it, you can pre-book a taxi up to 4 days in advance, which is not an option you’ll find just about anywhere.

The app works much like Uber. All you have to do is enter your destination, and see what’s available based on that. You can get an eScooter via this app, and the same goes for eMoped and eBike. Do note that you’ll need to unlock the vehicle by scanning the QR code, before you commence your ride. The design of FREE NOW is quite great, though that’s the case with basically every app on the list.

  • Size: Varies with device
  • Google Play rating: 4.7 out of 5 stars

inDriver is another ride-sharing app that has rather considerable support. It supports over 600 cities across 42 countries. The app that is available for Android is really nice. It not only looks modern, but it works really nicely. The app has great reviews in the Play Store, which says a lot. The app is really easy to use, and if you’ve ever used a ride-sharing app, you’ll know exactly what to do.

All you need to do is choose your destination, enter the fare you’re willing to pay, and choose your driver. The fact you can choose your fare is what sets this app apart from others. You will negotiate the fare directly with the driver, there are no pre-set prices in this app. Based on that, you may be able to get a better deal than on some other ride-sharing apps.

Crazy Taxi Classic is a taxi game from SEGA. This app is basically a re-release of a classic ‘Crazy Taxi’ game which was extremely popular back in the day. This game is completely off the hook. You’ll be driving a taxi across the town, picking up passengers, and collecting money. While you’re doing that, you’ll be creating total mayhem around you. This game first appeared on Dreamcast, a long, long time ago.

The game has been remastered, though, of course. You can choose from 3, 5 or 10-minute gameplay in Arcade Mode and Original Mode. There are also 16 mini games that you can delve into here. The Leaderboards are also available, and the app does support controllers from the get-go, so you can really get that classic feel if you want to. SEGA did a great job when it comes to remastering this game, and it sure is worth it.

Taxi Sim 2020

  • Price: Free to download
  • In-app purchases: $1.99-$49.99
  • Size: 44MB
  • Google Play rating: 4.4 out of 5 stars

Taxi Sim 2020 is also a taxi game, but the complete opposite of Crazy Taxi Classic. This is a taxi driving simulation. It’s trying to be as realistic as possible, as you’ll have to obey traffic rules as you drive people around. You’ll get access to huge and detailed cities, and graphics that don’t look half bad. There are also a ton of taxis to choose from, and as you progress, and earn more cash, you’ll be able to buy better and better models.

You’ll be able to drive through New York, Miami, Rome, or Los Angeles. Do note that your passengers’ wishes play a huge part in the whole experience. Some of them won’t care if you run through a red light, as long as you reach the destination as fast as possible. That’s just one example, of course. The controls are made to be as realistic as possible, while the developers also did their best to create a great-looking, and visual environment.

Taxi Run: Traffic Driver

  • Price: Free to download
  • In-app purchases: $2.49
  • Size: 78MB
  • Google Play rating: 4.2 out of 5 stars

Taxi Run: Traffic Driver is more cartoonish than the other two games, but that’s not a bad thing, not at all. This game is immensely fun. Your mission is to get your passenger from point A to point B. That shouldn’t be too hard if not for all the obstacles that will come in your way. You’ll have to avoid trains, trucks, cars of all sizes, and much more. The controls are easy to use, though you’ll need practice to become great.

There are a number of objectives that you’ll get as you progress, and the interface is really simple. The graphics are also quite good, and there’s this unique style that the developer used, with a lot of straight lines. The game is free to use, though ads are included. You can get rid of them, if you’re willing to pay a fee, though.
