What is Samsung’s Studio Mode?

Samsung just announced its new series of powerful windows-powered Galaxy Books. The Galaxy Book 3 series of Windows computers boast a host of powerful and exciting features. One such feature is called Studio Mode. This mode is designed for people who typically make video calls for their meetings. But, what is Studio Mode, and should you use it? Let’s dive into it.

What is Studio Mode?

Studio Mode is one of the selling points for the Galaxy Book 3 devices. The company promises several features that will make the whole video-calling experience that much better. These include Studio mode, which is for people who always want to look their best when they’re in front of the camera.

Makeup effect

The core mentality behind Studio Mode is to make you feel more camera-ready as though you’re in a photo studio. Because of that, there are some features that help in that regard. For starters, there’s a makeup effect. This will make it appear as though you’ve gotten makeup applied in a professional studio.

Sure, it sounds superficial, but a bunch of people are still forced to have their meetings over the air. This makes it easier for people to quickly hop on the meeting without needing to apply makeup beforehand.

Beauty effects

These features are approaching Snapchat filter territory. In Studio Mode, you’ll have a ton of beautification options along with the makeup feature. There’s a feature that will remove blemishes. So, if you’re self-conscious about that pimple on your forehead, you can remove it using the software.

The tools go further than that- to an unnecessary degree, actually. There are several sliders that you can adjust that change the physical size and shape of parts of your face. One slider lets you adjust the size of your eyes so you can have those large anime eyes. Another one adjusts the shape of your chin. The others tools are Nice Smile and Cute Nose.

Admittedly, these take things a little too far. This is especially true since the majority of the people using these features are business professionals in meetings. You don’t need a cute nose to present your company’s annual earnings report. In any case, they’re nice to have.

lighting correction

Another feature is the lighting correction feature. This feature uses software to adjust the lighting in your video feed to make it more presentable. Different rooms and environments have all sorts of different lighting conditions, and not all of them are suitable for webcams. Not only that, but some skin tones aren’t properly picked up by most cameras.

This is where the lighting correction comes in. The lighting correction function adjusts the lighting to make it look more balanced. This involves brightening darker areas and bringing down the brightness in overblown areas.

Auto-framing and eye contact correction

This feature is for people who’ll need to move around during their meetings. The auto-framing feature will keep you in the frame even while you’re moving. If you need to move for any reason, the camera will track you and keep you in the frame.

Another interesting feature is eye contact correction. Eye contact is important while attending meetings. The presenter wants to make sure that you’re paying attention to them. Seeing wondering eyes while you’re giving a presentation is never fun. Not only that, but we tend to look at our screens while attending meetings, not our cameras. This means that we’re almost guaranteed to be looking away from the camera.

What eye contact correction will do is adjust your eyes to make it look like they’re constantly looking toward the camera.

Screen freeze

This next feature is an interesting one. The screen freeze feature will pause your video feed. What the receiving end will see is a frozen image of you. This will be useful if you need to step away for any reason, but you don’t want it to appear that you’re gone. This is a better solution than turning off your camera or simply walking away while the meeting is going on. It’s much less of a distraction.
